gtzy - the glass folks I'm dealing with say that your information is wrong. Do you mind telling me where you are getting it from?
I think the main problem is that GM is the one saying to use 10295097 (per my VIN #).
I hope you are right as I really don't like this big old gap!
Robvuk - thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it if I don't get this sorted out soon. I'm in Grassland area. Lawrence Glass did the work. Walker referred them to me. Safelite etc did not seem to know anthing about Vette's.
Most people dont even look at their glass untill it has been replaced I have been doing this autoglass for 15 years. My first question to you is what brand of glass did they use in your car? You will always get what you pay for just like anything else the cheapest is not always the best. Also did you ask them what brand of glue they were going to use? I can help any of you guys with parts questions on glass or pricing or installations.. Just let me know...As for the gap it should not be there looks like the glass was set to deep.
Maybe the Z06 glass that's sold to consumers by glass shops isn't thinner. However, the oem Z06 glass installed by GM apparently was thinner. I base my comment on numerous discussions in this forum and others.
Refer to the link below, scroll down to the description of Z06 windshields being thinner for weight reduction by approximately 5#. It's posted by MAJ Z06, forum moderator.
On the Z06 only, both the windshield and backlite have been thinned to save weight. But resistance to stone chipping has been maintained. A total of 5.7 pounds was eliminated. There is cabin quietness as a result. But in a car like the Z06, we don't think anyone will care. Reducing the Z06's overall weight, boosting its power output by 40 hp, and broadening its operating range, made a significant improvement in the car's power-to-weight ratio. All told, Z06 is the lightest Corvette 38 pounds lighter than the former hardtop, 99 pounds lighter than the 2001 coupe and 95 pounds lighter than the 2001 convertible at just 3115 pounds. And remember, it's all about power-to-weight ratio. The result puts it in some very good company, as indicated in the chart.
The DW01325 GBN is the correct w/s for your car.
This part fits 99-2000 corvette hard top.also fits 98-2004 convertible.
The DW1430 GBN fits 2001-2004 hardtop..
These parts may be interchangable im not sure the 1430 is way cheaper than the 1325..This may be why some guys intsall the 1430 in cars your year but it is not correct..
Here's the latest - I called "Corvette Bob" and after much discussion he concluded that the GM # 10295097 is the correct ws for my car.
The thinner (4.8mm vs 5.4mm) glass was not used until the 2001 maybe 2002 Z06.
Further more based on the way the drip rails and trim attach above the doors, the windshield thickness should not have an effect on the gap with the roof unless it was completely the wrong ws.
His opionion is there is old sealant under the drip rail.
I will take it apart later this week and report back for others future reference.
Thanks to all - really appreciate it. Great forum!
