I've done a couple searches to no avail (with the exception of the speed wire explained in the C5 audio FAQ). Also, I've posted this question in the audio section with no luck. I'm doing an install of a Pioneer Avic-D1 & am in need of some advice on locating the speed sensor wire & reverse wire. Any pictures of each wire & how to get to them would be FANTASTIC. Feel free to chime in with advice if you've tackled an AVIC or similar head unit installation in a C5. Thanks in advance!
I just hooked up an AVIC-n3 and I ran the reverse wire to the back up light and I hooked the wire for the speed sense right to where the VSS wire went into the gauge cluster.
I'll look at what wire I used for the VSS and then if you pull one of your back up lights out of the rear facia it's pretty obvious which one is power and which one is ground, just tap into the power wire.
Hey Teapot,
I just replied to the thread in the audio section.
I tapped into the green wire from one of the reverse lights,(Like runamuk stated) Im still trying to find the vss.
I wonder if theres one in the harness?
For speed I would use the signal the PCM sends to the IPC. This is more of a true 12-0VDC square wave pulse of 4000 pulses per mile. Should be easy for most any device to read. The VSS sensor in the diff will actually put out an AC sine wave, not a DC pulse. You can find the IPC plug on the back left side of the IPC. Should only take less than 10 minutes to pull the cluster if you already have the console out. The speed signal is wire A7, a Dark Green/White wire. Here is a link to the IPC pinout and plug diagram.
For reverse, that should be a a Light Green wire running from the under the hood fuse box to the rear lights. I'm pretty sure that harness goes through the tunnel. Not sure the easiest point to find the wire.

I have to ask,,,,,why do you need a "REVERSE" light signal for a stereo????????
BC
Thanks for all the help fellas. Hopefully my install will go smoothly once I get done forming up my bezel.
FYI- for my head unit, you need a reverse wire for the GPS to ascertain if the car is going forwards/backwards when you are out of contact with the satellite (tunnel, parking garage, etc). Fun fun fun!
Since I put my gps antenna behind the back bumper I ran the Reverse wire and the antenna wire through the vent flap thingy, then under the carpet towards the stereo area. So i just hooked up to the green wire at one of the back up lights.
And yeah, the reverse signal is for the navi so it knows, and for the rear view camera.
