I noticed today that while acclerating fast my car starts to sputter around 4500 RPM,s. The sound it is making is similar to a motor that is hitting its RPM limiter. I know thats not the problem but it sounds similar. My car is a 1999 FRC with a Halltech Stinger CAI, Magnaflow exshaust with hi flow cats, Dynotech headers, and a custom tune from PCM,s for less. Other than the problem at high RPMS the car runs fine with a smooth ideal. Any idea what the problem could be. Thanks
we would like to help but need codes to have much of a chance. clear any messages that are on the info pannel. turn key on, clear messages, hold option and press fuell 4 times. write down the numbers you find and post them here. can do a search on this site and study and find sites that post info about codes and meaning.
Is your car an Automatic ??? If so sounds like the traction control system is being activated somehow--only way to check would be with a scanner to see if timing is being pulled--You can get a nice scanner at kragens for about $200 and it is almost a must for a modded car to read paremeter data---If you are getting knock retard at that pont (4500)--in large amouts like maybe 7-10* it would indicate the TC system being activated--Many things use the TC system to control RPM's and speed--Like -- Abuse Mangmt--TQ Mangmt--Engine Protecton--Traction control sys. itself--Rev limiter--
When it does it again, look at the Check Engine Light (CEL) and see if it flashes when the problem happens. If it does your getting a cylinder misfire. Check the DTC's (while your driving and see if you see a P-0300 H code.
