Anyone know the cause and how to fix? How does one also change the cabin air filter on a C5? Taking the car to a dealer is not an acceptable answer either -
Sorry,,,the C5 does NOT have a cabin filter. It does however draw air in through the cowl in front of the windshield. On the drivers side there is a well for the wiper motor. It has three rubber drains. If they clog up, the trach in that well will rit and stink!! The AC HVAC will draw in that smell.
I will look into it! Thanks so much. I hope it is this simple, except that the car is a 2002 and has only 11k and is always kept inside under a car cover. I hope this is the problem. Great pictures. This kind of help is why I love the Corvette forum.
There are aerosal cans of air conditioner cleaner that you can spray into intake and outlet ducts. They clean and disinfect the system.
There is another fix, a kit that runs the air conditioner fan after the car is turned off. It drys out moisture so mold can't grow. It is a little strange to hear your interior fan come on after you car is off, but it works.
A great trick to avoid mildew in the system is to run the fan on High with AC off until warm air starts to come out, just before you reach your destination.
I do this everytime I go home after using the AC for that day. You don't have to do it on every ride in your car, just the end of the day and that should avoid mildew growth.
