Took 2002 coupe for ride today and suddenly the dash went wild. You name the alarm it went off. " check engine, fuel low, door ajar, check traction control.......everthing else......
Car still runs, critical functions seem OK. So took it local dealer, they say the BCM needs to be reset. ? Can't do it till monday.

Several things can contribute to this but a couple of common ones are low battery voltage or wet electronics. Check the passenger foot well for AC moisture.
Do you, or have you ever had water in passenger foot well area? If its wet, dry it out. If you've had water in that area in the past, unplug the connectors to the BCM and check for corrosion on the contacts. Disconnect the battery before you do anything. Do a search in the tech archive. Lot's of good info there.
Your BCM most likely got damp. Disconnect the battery, remove the BCM and set it in a warm dry location for a couple of hours. Next,,figure out where the moisture is comming from. Make sure that the HVAC drain is not plugged.
If your BCM is wet, I bet you that the jute insulation under your carpet is soaked! If it is wet or even damp, I strongly recommend pulling the carpet and letting it dry in the sun or in a warm location (furnace rooms work well) If you dont, it will mildue and start to STINK!
The car been in winter storage in my garage since november. Not outside and totally dry. It was put on the road 3 weeks ago. Hasn't seen rain. Looking through the some of the posts I am thinking I have some grounding problems. On the way home we went down a bumpy road and some crazy things were happening. Doors locks going, AC on/off drivers door panel works one second then not at all. I am going to look at the chassis grounds tomorrow and see if there is some corrosion. Will still check the passenger floorwell for moisture as well.
Ok, so this morning I checked the 2 ground connectors just behind the headlights. Opened them up and nice and clean. Tighted battery connections. Removed the passenger front floor panel and reseated all the coonectors on the BCM(I assume its the silver unit with the 3 big connectors on it?). Absolutely no sign of moisture. I mean bone dry. Took the car out and no difference. All sorts of messages, "engine power reduced", "low fuel", no gages at all. Drivers side arm rest panel is totally dead.
It is still under extended warranty so I will stop by the dealer tomorrow and see what they can do.

Ahhh, some more good info!!!!
" Drivers side arm rest panel is totally dead. "
There is a rubber accordion tube between the door and the body. Inside that tube are TWO door harnesses. C5 have an issue with bare wires on the plugs:
LOOK at the wires on either side of the plugs and check for bare wires:
The wire can and frequently does short the serial buss wire and presto; weird electrical issues!!! The dead door module is a dead give away!
Sometimes you can grab the cables on the inside of the tube and shake them. A lot of the time it will clear the problem temporally. Check both tubes and harnesses in both doors.
Your so close! I live in Gales Ferry! May we can get together some time. I have a buddy who lives on Cemetary road and I get up that way every so often.
I've been meaning to look you up going back to the days when England Green was having his mod parties at his home in Connecticut. I have a boat in Mystic, so I get down your way frequently. If you want to PM me with a phone number I'll give you a call and stop by to introduce myself. I've got to float the boat first though This working thing, sure gets in the way of my hobbies.
Went to the local dealer today. Yes they nodded their heads that there is some wiring issues in the doors. Too busy today to look at it so wanted the car for whole another time. Turns out they want to remove the whole door. and check everything out. I said I will set that up another time.
Back home decided to look into the photos sent by Bill C. Pulled out the cables and connectors and viola exposed wires just as his photos indicate. I have covered the ends with insulating tape, re-installed, quick trip down bumpy road and "problem solved". No more alarms and armrest panel is working fine. It appears that the connectors were pushed up towards the door mount inside the front pillar and probably shorting out on the inside door bolt mounts.
So I am going to do the passenger wide as well. This is a check that should be done on all C5's I think.
