Default Help Please!! Traction Contol and ABS Light

When I start my 98 C5 the display says service traction control and service ABS. I have checked fluid levels, brake pads, connections, and fuses. If anyone has any other ideals please let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Check your "high mounted brake light" if it is out, you will get the
message.

Hi Wake 1 I know what your problem is. My vette does the same. The problem is a bad wheel speed sensor. I hook up my snap-on scanner and it told me arratic vibration front left wheel speed sensor. have a tec read tdc he give u the best ansewer. The sensors are very expensive from G.M 800$ I found mine for 369$ from ECKLERS Alot better. Good Luck please update use when u find out  :yesnod:

Have you checked your DIC for the On Board Diagnostic read outs for the TCS system? The TCS codes if any exist should give you an idea where the problem is located.

28 TCS shows 4 codes, C1225H, C1232HC, C1291H, C1293H. I do not have a clue as to what this means.

You have ONE current code and three history codes.

The current code is C1232, here is what it means:
LF Wheel Speed Circuit Open or Shorted.
Circuit description: the speed snesor used on this vehicle is a single point magnetic pickup. This sensor produces an AC signal that the EBTCM uses the frequency form to calculate the wheel speed.
conditions for setting this DTC:
any time the ignition is in the ON position, and the EBTCM senses an open, a short to ground, or a short to battery.

Diagnostic aids:
check all the wiring for shorts, loose connection or shorts.

Basically you either have a bad wire going to the sensor or a bad sensor itself Or a bad EBTCM (electronic brake control module).

C1225 LF Excessive Wheel Speed Variation
this is most likely related to 1232, bad wires, sensor or EBTCM

C1291 Open Brake Lamp Sw Contacts During Decel.
This is realted to 1225 and 1232 as they set this one off.

C1293 Set Curnt/Prev Ign Cycle
Second part of 1291. This also relates back to you LF wheel sensor.

Overall looks like a bad wire on the LF wheel sensor, a bad LF wheel sensor or EBTCM.

Well guys I took the left front brake caliper off and disconnected the wheel speed sensor. I also checked the wires for possible grounds. I was basically just trying to see how hard it would be to replace the wheel speed sensor. When I put it back together everything worked perfectly. It must have been a bad connection because I did not see any damage to the wires. Maybe it will not start doing it again. I would like to thank you all for your help. :)

Intel55,

Maybe you can help me out. I've got the same service "traction control & abs" light coming on. As corvetteseller suggested my "high mounted brake light is out ." But I haven't tried a new one yet. Do you think it is worth trying considering I also I had three codes listed under

28 - TCS

C1221 H - LF Wheel Speed Senso Input signal is 0
C1225 H - RF Excessive Wheel Speed Variation
C1255 H - EBTCM Internal Malfunction

I know these are all history codes - but don't know what else to do!
Thanks in advance,
Jon
