Default a sad day

whats up everyone. well quick question....my was stolen-ended up in a ditch. long story. only real damage is the passenger side panel under the door(the one w/ the brake vent on it). its nothing big, but the car lost its pefection. now, is it cheaper to repair that(of course youd need to see the damage)-couple cracks. or just buy a new one from the dealer and get it painted...what u guys think?

That sux, but I'm glad to hear that you got it back in relatively good shape. I'd guess that it would be easier to repair, as it's bonded to the car. I'm sure others will respond with more experience in this area.

It all depends on how bad it is busted up. Those rocker panels are glued to the car really good with lots of glue. They are pretty hard to get off. If not busted too bad they can be repaired. An advantage is the rocker panel is so low they are really hard to see if there is any little imperfections.

well its not too busted up, and youre right. not even really noticable. also, i noticed some other stuff wrong
1)front "fascia" is busted up so i took it off-3 pieces. but, as i was under there, i noticed the bar that the middle fascia piece bolts on to, and runs up through the bumper is bent. looks like an easy fix-but i dont know how much that crossbar costs(hopefully its not bigger than i think it is).
2) the z06 shiny plate on the back(where the 4 tips come out) is cracked.
3)the pass side muffler hangs-the welded piece that runs to the muffler bracket is bent. not bad-prob 40bucks tops at a muffler shop.
4) the lower door panel. its not too bad, the fiberglass is cracked in a circle the size of hmm a silver dollar. the brake vent doesnt wanna sit all the way in. ill look at it tomorrow some more-might be the mud inside of it.
5)curb rash on pass side rims.

i could go through insurance, but i dont want to get them involved. and plus i have a high *** deductable. i plan to paint the front bumper, the back bumper, and the two lower side panels. would a body shop more than likely just repaint while on the car?

You are looking at a pretty high bill to fix all of the damage to your vette. I would estimate at least $3K.

If your car was stolen, this should end up on your comprehensive part of your insurance. I have had 3 claims in the last 10 years that fell under comprehensive (tire tread hitting a car, 2 stolen cars) that the insurance company paid out over 25K for total. They did not increase my premiums at all. (I have AAA for insurnace).

FWIW: Comprehensive is usually not that expensive to have a low deductable on ($100) and in my experience has paid off. I would check into that.

Z06_N_SD, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I'm familiar with the current San Diego fix it prices and ajg1915 is in the ballpark to what it will cost by the time its all said and done. Best case senario would be just over 2K but I wouldn't be suprised to see it get well into the 3K range.

You might want to reconsider getting your insurance company involved being that it was stolen. Hopefully you got a police report to back up the damage that was done. I have $100 deductible with AAA also and you may want to restructure your insurance after this due to it being totally worth it and pays for itself after just one incident.

Be careful taking a Z06 to the local muffler shop for exhaust repairs. The rear exhaust is made out of Titanium, not stainless or mild steel like all other cars. The mufflers retail for around $1,400 each from GM! Be sure you tell them they can't weld your exhaust with a MIG welder! Make them repeat after you "I can not weld you exhaust with my MIG welder"! And even after that if the guy in the shop still thinks he can you might end up with a mess like this!

On a FRC (Z06) you will only paint the rockers and top on the car. All other parts should be removed a painted separately.

cool thanks guys. yeah i didnt do a report. idk. well i looked into the cost
1) front bracket-$330 at chevy
2) rear exhaust Z06 plate $200
3) that panel-havent been to a body shop. i cant see it bein too much
4) after lookin at it the bracket may able to just be heated and benT back into shape-no breaks..not too tweeked.
5)front fascia-$199
6) i looked on east coast corvettes and im gonna get those black c5 z06 style rims with the polished lip for about 1g. thinkin im going to go w/ those rims, a dark tint, and the blacked out tail lights-my car is silver. should look pretty sweet.
as for the front bumper..just has lil pits u know, from not having a bra and being 6yrs old.
im thinkin im gonna spend about 1500 w/ rims.
U GUYS HAVE ANY OTHER OPINIONS ON SOME NICE BLACK RIMS? PICTURES MAYBE?

Check with supporting vendor Gene Culley for factory GM parts, he can probably save you quite a bit of money over your normal walk in GM dealer on factory GM parts.

The good companies will not give you a surcharge on a comprehensive loss that is not your fault, just don't get too many. Ask you agent to at least look into it for you, could be good news. Oh, and get that comp ded down, some day you may need a $1000+ windshield. Do the math, it will take years of a cheaper premium to make up for that.

Default Are you sure?

What a bad deal, sorry!

Are you sure that nothing else got tweeked, like the frame rails?

Ended up in a ditch? Like launched through the air or slid into a ditch.

I would at least throw it on an alignment rack and check out the front and rear alignment.

I can understand not getting the ins company involved if the damage is minor. Who needs their rates jacked?

I have done mucho body work and many paint jobs over the years. As long as you are sure the frame is untouched sounds like the cost for you to fix is very reasonable.

If the damage to the rockers is minimal you can probably use this:

I have had great success with this stuff.

Here is a car I recently completed, a near basket case. Not my C5 luckilly but.....

Good luck!
