Default Key/ignition replacement???

I had my C5 stolen in July, and have recently welcomed a new child into the household...an Electron Blue Z06. (and there was much rejoicing! ).

Anyways, I've already got Lojack getting installed this week, already done the VIN acid etching, and would like to get the key set changed (the last one was stolen cuz they copied the vin, went to a dealership and had a key made!), adn possibly put on some type of system like Onstar. Onstar claims they cant install a system, it has to come factory direct, which isn't offered on the corvette...so if anyone has any ideas on doing something like that with another tracking system, please let me know.

Has anyone ever replaced out the key systems, and if so how much did it cost, and what issues did you run into?

Thanks much!!

Jeff Kirk

Lojack would be better than Onstar for stolen vehicle tracking. Onstar is easily defeated by cutting the very obvious GPS/cellular cables. But you might wanna check your local PD to verify their Lojack preparedness.

The VIN etching is not a bad idea.

Since you've already been thru theft once, I would spend money on an aftermarket security system before changing out key cylinders. An aftermarket system with it's own starter kill/fuel kill would be more theft deterrent I think. And it's probably gonna be the about same amount of money. Consider the Clifford systems, their new wireless starter kill is the most theft-proof design available.
