Howdy folks, can't rid of this P0420 code (driver side cat problem)- it was showed up a few months ago, and I'd just clear it out. Now it is showing up within 2 days of clearing it.
It's an 01 vert, no mods, stock cats w/ flowmaster exhaust.
After reading that, I assume there are two O2 sensors on each side, before & after the cats- I was thinking of swapping the O2 sensors from side to side, so if there is an O2 sensor problem, it should throw a P0430 code (pass side). If there really is a problem, it'll still say P0420 (driver's side).
If it is a real problem, off to the stealership it goes- they (emissions) are warrantied for 100,000/10 years, right? do they usually figure out a way to charge you for something, or is it straight forward?
Just break the connection on the air hose for the A.I.R. supply hose between the alternator and the fender,
spray in a goood shot of carb cleaner, blast that throught with some compressed air, then do a shot of WD-40 followed by a shot of air and hook everything back up!
That usually solves the problem for a year or so! Beats removing the intake or spending tons of cash!
your driver side sensor is fine, it is your driver side cat that is bad. either replace the cat or put in o2 sims. my cats went bad within 2 months of each other, end up picking up o2 sims from member cbrf4i1 for around $30.
If anyone has o2 sims that cheap please pm me, btw didnt mean to jack thread
All right gents, I put her in the shop this morning. $90 to check it out, free if they find something. The service writer seemed pretty confident it'll be a warranty issue. (hope) If not, hopefully I'll get a really good explanation on what's going on.
Bill, thanks for your amazing fix'ums- I really think your blood cells are not round; they are little corvette logos... if it comes back unfixed, I'll clean out the air tube, and then buy O2 sims.
It also gave me the opportunity to vent about all my POS electronic problems- both door computers, both gas tank senders, anti lock brake control solenoid; and separated door panel material. (Yes, I've researched all these things, and fixed most)
I asked for a goodwill/safety fix for the brake solenoid, which they don't really do for second owners. We'll see. It did get me into a slight wreck with a curb.
