Default Spinning motor by hand - both ways?

Any issues with turning the motor over by hand in either direction or should it always go in the direction that it runs?

My other option is to reverse the tightening sequence on the flywheel bolts, if I swap 3 & 3 and 5 & 6 the number of required flywheel turns reduces from 3 to 1-1/2.

I've spun mine around by hand both ways (with the heads off - no compression).

Can't think of any reason it would hurt anything, but if there is, I'm curious too.

I did it with the valve train out when I did the cam, wasn't sure with the non-symetrical cam ramps, etc. I think I may just change the tightening sequence so I can go the same way.

I agree, won't hurt a thing. Figure most engines, specially high compression ones comes to a pretty harsh stop when you cut them off, they will kick back turning backwards till they equalize the cylinder pressures. Lots of times cranking they will pop back and turn backwards. But just remember, when you spin the car out a 100MPH+ don't let out the clutch while sliding backwards. Spin the motor backwards that fast and those non-symmetrical cam lobes won't do the valve train any good! Seen it end more than few of the NASCAR's boys days.

Guess I would be doing pretty good if I could spin it that quick with the flywheel turning tool
