Well, heres where im coming from.....my best friend has a 99 pewter c5 and of course the first mod that he did was put an air intake on it because its cheap and it does provide better airflow. There is NOOO way that you could feel the difference in that car afterwards. It sounded a little throatyer when you got into it but there was no feelable power increase, and personally, not to bash any of you guys that do think you feel something, but u just want to believe that it did soo much for your car that you think it feels like it has more torque or horsepower. Its all in your head IMO.......but to the man who started this thread. yea go with the ziptie mod because it cost nothing and it will help...a bit.....

Track results.

Dropped from a 13.90-14.0 to a 13.7-13.75.

Well worth the 15 minutes for the zip tie mod.

You just held your foot in it longer because it sounds cooler now.

Seriously, did you look at the part that you took off? Your car was breathing through 4 holes in the sides about the size of a quarter each, that's it! On the 01's and up they put a small scoop on the front (see above post) and they opened up the sides completely. Of course, the Z got the same treatment just with a larger scoop on the front (also see above).

I think the K&N came into its own and was able to breathe better. Not to mention I love the sound.

I also drove it like I stole it.

No I am coming from the fact that the tires broke loose easier, throttle response was snappier and I did better at the track. I'm very skeptical when it comes to mods. This one works. Do a search on zip tie to see more people with similar results.

My mod was more cosmetic than anything. I wanted to try something different since I will be scrapping it for a real cold air intake before too long. As far as feeling a difference, none...I was kinda bummed that I felt nothing but, I did however "hear" a difference that's about it...

Zip tie with K&N gave me 10 hp at the rear wheels.. Did a before and after dyno. The stock air box is a major joke... Try running down the street as fast as you can with one finger up one of your nostrils... You get the idea.. Not sure what Nightmare Zo6 is talking about or coming from.. The mod is good fo 2 tenths of a second... Classy 97's numbers are right on target...

I drilled four 2 1/4" holes in my 2000 lid which more than doubled the air intake area. I plan on drilling holes in the fog light housing to direct cool air towards the airbox next.

Add a better filter for better performance.

That's because you have a '01+. It comes with a much better breathing system. The '00 and older breathed through 4 holes about the size of a quarter.

I was refering to the pic. above. It looks like a stock paper filter. If it is an aftermarket please excuse me if I'm wrong.

To maximize performance on the zip tie mod you do not need a paper filter.

That's fine. It's actually a foam filter made by a German company that specializes in performance air filters, uses three different layers of foam. Thought I would give it a try.

I haven't had it in that long but it seems to work fine. I did the lid mod at the same time. I have a 2000 which has restrictive inlets so it flows more air now for sure more intake noise also.

Blast from the past I know, sorry guys, but do you have to do the computer reset/relearn thing on this like you do when you get a whole new air intake? or is that just because it relocates the maf? Thanks.

Thanks for digging this thread up. My '02 coupe runs 13.0's stock. Looks like I could run some 12.9's with the help of some Zip Ties!

false

you are better off keeping your paper filter. your stock engine cant even come close to maxing out the flow potential of the paper filter, and it filters far better than cotton gauze, which is basically a screen not a filter. there is a thread on the flow capabilities and lack of restriction on the similar sized F-body filters somewhere on ls1tech.

"you will only gain 2 hp"

false

goto ls1tech in the vette performance section there is a sticky with before/after ziptie mod dyno results.

if you arent a moron (you're not), you can execute the zip tie mod to perfection, without drilling a bunch of damn holes in anything. that just doesnt look good at all. i mean.. i am comparing having zipties that looks rigged to having a bunch of holes drilled.. but to me the holes are just hideous. if you use larger black zip ties, you dont even notice...
