Default Stock 2000 coupe with error code P0343

I just picked up a stock 2000 coupe with only 16,000 miles on it.
I have error code p0343 CMP sensor High voltage.
This is causing the car to take about 5 to seconds of cranking to start. Some time it will start right up when the key is turned.

How hard is it to reach the sensor to replace it?
Does the intake mainfold have to realy come off to replace it?

What are the chances that it is something other then the Sensor?

I read some post about the lose bolts, could this happen on a stock engine with verry low milage.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Right, so this is the cam position sensor, and the computer needs
this signal to run the fuel injection, so that explains the hard
starts.

On a completely stock car, I'd say go ahead and replace the
sensor. If I'm reading this right, it's at the back of the engine
standing up behind the intake manifold.

I went the route of the loose bolts on the cam chain sprocket. I assumed the worst, However, I got a new cam, new heads and intake manifold out of it.

My problem ended up being the sensor itself. Either remove the intake manifold to remove the sensor or I believe I saw some people cut a hole to get at the sensor from directly above it.

Thanks for the advice, Where would I cut the hole?
I am not a mechanic so removnig the Manifold would be out of the question. And being on Okinawa Japan makes it next to imposible to find a good mech that knows how to work on anything that is not a Toyota.

Do a search for the oil pressure sensor mod, it may be a sticky. It details where and how to cut the hole. You can see both the OPS and cam sensor.

Thanks, you just saved me $$ and time. I think I can see the Cam sensor in some of those pics so hopefully I will be able to unbolt it and replace it from the hole.

I cut the hole as in the post you mentioned however the Cam sensor could not be removed with out pulling the Intake manfold.

When trying to remove the sensor thorugh the hole it will catch on the lip of the manifold if it is not removed.

I removed the manifold today and replaced the sensor and it is now fixed.
Thanks again for your help.

Damn, that sucks that you had to pull it. Was there too much of a lip to remove with a dremel or something?

Yeah, Way to Much to Dremel.
At least it is fixed.
Noe my traction control error came up on the DIC.
I shut off the engine and restarted it and the messege went away.
I hope it doesnt pop back up.
