it's all so confusing. is there a simple way to pick one and how do i know i am getting a good one? who are the reputable vendors?
here is what i want to do.
have fun on the street!
keep my 30MPG cruse at 75mph.
get more power and acceleration.
past 100-120 mph i really don't care. i have not gotten it over 120 on the street and don't plan to race it.
i have a fine car right now.
i also have about 3000 i can spend on mods.
i plan to get dynatech flowmax header to cats before i get the heads and cam. right now i am just reasearching and looking down the road.
You're right. If you do a search you will find every possible opinion on this subject ranging from conservative to extreme.
Here's the best advise I can give you. Find a good installer / tuner in your area. Do the research and make sure that they are reputable. Call them and tell them exactly how you plan to use your car. Follow their advise.
My personal experience is that it's easy to get sucked in to over camming your car in the quest for RWHP. Stay conservative and you'll be glad you did.
i would save up more and just put a supercharger on it. If i had to do it over again, thats where i would be. Perfect driveability retained, and
plenty of power. I love the nasty sound of a heavy cammed ls6 though.
Good luck with your decision, you will have fun either way.
You are probably going to get a lot of biased opinions on this subject. My personal choice is AFR heads. Thats what I have. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for also. As mentioned above, you cant go wrong with a supercharger also. My choice on that is between a procharger and the Kenne Bell supercharger. Good luck in making a decision.

3000 wont get you very far ... if you just want some more power and dont plan to race or anything save up get a blower and you'll be more than happy work good on stock cars
$3,000 won't get you very far on the H/C route... I did all my labor (except tune), and it ran me $4,400 including long-tubes. And I did the budget route.
Do yourself a HUGE favor. Go to LS1tech.com and read through their cam guide in their internal engine section. Search around and learn everything you can about cams, how they work, what works on LS1's, and then make a decision. I spent 3 months learning before I pulled the trigger, and I'm so glad I did. You could get lucky by asking around "what should I get?", but the safest way to be satisfied is to know it inside and out. Best of luck!
