Well just wondering I got this huge Cam for my car and was wondering if going with 114 LSA will affect HP. I had a tech tell me that I would loose HP going with a 114 LSA is this so?
Here is a great article for cam information. LSA can affect output but it all depends on what setup you have. N/A, N2O, F/I are the biggest discriminators. 114 is fine though for most applications. Kind of middle of the road. Not stock but not extreme either.
It's more like where your power will start and end at. Lower lsa will give more down low and peak out a little lower in the rpm. The higher lsa may not come on as soon in the lower prms but will peak out higher. I think that's how it works anyway.

Unless you advance the cam or with a wider LSA grind in some advance. Over on Popular Hotrodding, there is an article called "Be the Cam Expert". Has a lot of good information for getting started. Since the cam will determine how your car drives and where it makes power, you should research this really well before buying so you don't end up with a car you don't like any more.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but this sounds like the ultimate recipe for cam choice disaster. You really need to listen to the other guys and really do a lot of reading to understand cams better and THEN decide what size cam and what LSA to run. You could get lucky by playing Russian Roulette, but your likely to wind up with a cam you don't like... With all the time and/or money it takes to install a cam, I wouldn't want to be dissatisfied afterwards.
Your not being a Jerk trust me ive seen some Jerks on here. But I see what you mean. I have a Tech though that likes to do things a little on the Radica lside and he wanted for me to use a GM racing cam with an LSA of 106......yeas I said 106. I on the other hand want a 114 LSA on my cam I like the rough idle but not that rough. My new Cam specs are 251/256 600/598 114 Which should work great on my setup im still running the stock lifters so I cant go with too much lift. This was really an argument between him and I on the LSA and a 106 does not sound streetable to me.

For that cam, an LSA of 106 would be insane. But LSA by itself means little. You could have a cam with an LSA of 106, and have it be very tame, if it's a small cam. A 210/214 on a 106, for instance, would have the same overlap as my 224/224 on a 112, and would thus lope and idle similarly.
Yeah I agree this cam was not small but he wanted to put this in anyway. I wonder about him sometimes. But thats another subject. I think this cam I have now will do the job the heads I have now are definitely ask fr a big Cam.
