Default Shortened shifter

When I bought my 2000 MN6 it had a shorted stock shifter.I drove a 2002 Z06 Yesterday and other than the length it shiftered much easier.Should I go back to stock or aftermarket ie. Hurst or B&M??

Thanks

Don't go back to the stock shifter. Either keep what you have or get an aftermarket shifter.
How the shifter was shortened, will affect how it works. If it was shortened by simply cutting the threaded portion and putting the **** back on, it will still have the sloppy feeling of the stock shifter, especially from 2nd to 3rd. If it was shortened by a method that eliminated the cone shaped rubber piece that's inside the shifter, it will feel more precise, but the shorter it is, the more effort needed to shift. Most aftermarket shifters will require at least some additional effort, although the fulcrum point is usually different to minimize this. Search the tech archives for shorten shifter and aftermarket shifters, and you will have several nights reading. There is no best shifter. It depends how your using the car, and your tolerance to additional shifting effort.

There is more to the story than just the shifter.

Read this thread.

I have done the mod to my 99 FRC. You cannot believe how much easier it is to shift compared to stock.

You need to get washers that fit over oil pan bolts. I forget the exact size something around 22 to 24 mm. Use 2 washers and silicone to prevent leak.

Bolt is in the middle of the transmission on the passenger side.
