Default New owner questions rear diff/temp sensor

I am the proud new owner of a 2000 Torch Red FRC. I have done a few things already such as HVAC dim fix, adjust ride height, found reverse lockout solenoid unplugged, 3 coats Zaino, de-badged, new window tint, made ramps and jacking pads, ordered rail savers from EE, partition, etc. This weekend is fluid time. I have read most of what I can find on the rear diff fluid change and been under the car quite a bit. I went with Amsoil fluids for the tranny and rear and the tranny looks self explanatory, SO...

Where is the second plug on the diff in relation to the 10mm allen head plug? I only see the one plug.

Also, where exactly under the front bumper is the outside temp sensor?

Thanks all and glad to be here as an owner now!,

Jeremy

Look at the picture here and blow up the portion showing the rear of the diff. The drain plug is on the right lower side, facing the rear. That is a paper tag around mine. 3/8" drive bare ratchet will do the job, extender if you need it.

I like to remove the bottom first when draining, then the top to increase the flow. With car level fill to just under the top drain plug level, if you overfill you will get some leakage.

I believe the OAT is actually the thing plugged into the air intake that is not the MAF.

Hope that helps, good luck!

I think that is the IAT snesor in the MAF. I am looking for the outside temp sensor that displays on the HVAC. Mine reads 69 degrees at all times.

Still confused by that picture. That plug is the one is see on my car clearly. The 10 mm allen head. Where is the other plug? If that is the drain and the fill is above that one, then where is it??

from the drain plug go staight up to the top of the diff, then left. See the little hollow area, the fill plug faces up, pretty sure.

And you are probaby right thats the IAT.

Drain plug is on the bottom, can't miss it if you look under. Drain is shown in the photo.

I do believe if you look under the car from the front center, look to the passenger side above the metal skid plates and you will see a plastic point sticking out of the radiator shroud, it is reatined with a push pin and has a electrical connector, you will have to remove a couple of screws to get it out probably.

Bob.

Thanks a bunch guys. That clears it up and I found a good thread on the temp sensor with todays searching! I think I have a bit of a leaky butt and did not see that bottom plug!

Welcome and congrats on the new car. As it looks like you have figured out, the diff drain plug is on the bottom of diff (I think just in front of the leaf spring but its been a while since I've changed my diff fluid). The fill plug is the allen head one on the back, about halfway up and a little on the passenger side of the car.
