Ahh, I thought you were going to a scheduled organized event somewhere. I would not recommend trying to do it on public roads somewhere. If you go to a sanctioned event, you will have to be able to pass tech for whatever speed it is that you have as your goal. Unfortunately, there is a LOT of safety equipment involved in passing tech for 200. 175, not as much, but still more than most people want to do to their cars. The next event at Maxton is in the spring and the event list is on their website... http://ecta-lsr.com/
I don't like going much past the top of 4th on public roads. Definately won't try 200.
I KNOW I can't do 200 in a mile, but I might show up to maxton anyway. Can you pm me details on what I need for 175 mph tech?
Have had mine up to 180 at 5500 rpm. still had 1200 rpm till my limiter set at 6700. Was still pulling like a marthafocker .I think she would hit 200 no problem. i'm at 560 rwhp
Yeah, best thing to do is to contact them and get a rule book. I can give you a few of the big mods for 175...
5lb Fire control system (I think for 175 it can be for engine compartment only)
6 point roll bar
think you might have to have race seats and 5 or 6 point harnesses for 175... not positive
helmet and neck roll
I think some fire protection gear is required for 175... suit, gloves, shoes, socks
there is a whole bunch of stuff, but I think the rest might be for 200. When I was building the car, I knew that 200 was my ultimate goal, so I built it for that, even though I was only doing more like 175 at the time.
Wouldn't attempt it on public roads, too many variables to contend with, but for my C5 brothers who live in the Houston Area, we have a 2.2 mile strip of beautiful runway on the southeast side at Ellington, the decomissioned air force base. Every time I fly out of there all I can think is "oh baby, my vette would love you"!!
That's longer than the Texas Mile's strip, which I think is 1.6. The shut down is a real issue there. It's longer than Maxton as well. Maxton is 1.9. I'm sure permission is the real issue, but heck... work on it and have 2 in texas.
Math equations mean nothing to me. If you want to go fast just put in a 3/4 race cam and glass packs! I'm pretty sure my Camaro in highschool could hit 200..
This stuff has been done by the best. There is no great secret. You need more than just a lot of power although admittedly with enough you can get to 200 in a Vette.
You need an air dam. I've never see the air dam John used other than pictures and videos. Every car I've ever seen that goes that fast is aerodynamically revised. I've driven that one particular car many, many times though. It has/had somewhere between 650-750 RWHP depending on the usual variables. It did have TT and intercooling standard to Lingenfelter. It also had a different tranny and diff than it does the last time I saw/drove it. That car did 225 averaged both ways with just an air damn and gearing. It sounds like a jet going by.
Anyone driving that fast in an unprepared automobile is placing himself/herself and the public at high risk. Vettes are not made to fly nor crash well for the occupants. It's crazy to do this on a public road. If you aren't cognizant of all the things that can go wrong then you're not prepared to do it. I highly recommend consulting someone who knows the ropes before trying to go 200mph. And 200 on your speedometer is likely to not be 200 true. Maxton is a quality place. Most of those people I know will go out of their way to help you but you should take others advice and get involved with a known speed association.
You ask about tapeing all the seams hood/lights. fold the mirrors in or better yet take them off.
You ask about what to do with the front of the car. Best thing to do is make it a front breather and add a air dam to the front of the car. This sucks down to the ground at speed.
See the pic of my C4 Open Road racecar:
Then vent your hood:
I have not run the C5 to top speed yet, but my C4 has hit 206, but not from a standing start. Which I think is what you are attemting to do. I have right at 600rwhp in the C4, but I am loseing some top end with the wing. I need the wing though since I average 170 for 90 miles and make turns. If you do the front as described above you might find you need to have some kind of spioler on the rear to balance the downforce you have added to the front.

This is an interesting thread. I thought you all might like to see a short video of what my hero, JEFFYVETTE's #396, 200+mph, C4 looks like from road side. enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrSKwu51mP4
