when running my baby on the capital beltway (MD/VA) my right leg gets alot of heat coming from the console area i guess, is this normal and what can be done about it?
It is normal, but can be solved....
The issue is the cheap thin tunnle plate that comes with the car.
Upgrade to a thicker, coated or insulated tunnel plate.
They dramatically reduce the console temp.
here is a link to the only one I know of that is insulated

The easiest and cheapest way is to install Frost King under the consol. Takes 30 min and cost like 5 bucks. I installed FK in front and back and it really made a difference in notice level and heat in side the cabin (esp. in the rear compartments).
Do a search on Frost King and you will see a ton of links and pictures.
The tunnel plates require the the exhaust system to be removed. Most guys wait till they do a cat back exhaust system and replace the tunnel plate at the same time.

Yep, that's what I did. I had an Elite Engineering tunnel plate installed when I did headers/X-pipe/mid-pipe installation,
As for keeping things cool, now that we're approaching summer here in Southern California and it is getting 90 degrees mid-day, I have noticed a big difference.
