hey guy's and gal's.just wondering.the kumho ectsa mx's or the kumho spt's and the sumitomo htrz/2's are very cheap compared to the oem's or the other tire maker's.i was wondering if anybody run's the above tire's.seem's the review's are all good on tirerack.im looking for the bad review's.other than a once and a while flat out high speed blow the carbon out run,(165 mph is my record) and some on ramp/off ramp curves.i dont really beat on the car.bottom line is i feel like a jerk having a car that goes 160 mph with tire's that cost $700.00 or less for four when the oem's are 1700.00.i know you get what you pay for.thank's for your opinoin's,there greatly appreciated...al...04 C-5
Actually, The Kumhos MXs came in dead last in a high-performance tire test by Car & Driver. There is a significant difference between them and the top-rated Goodyear GSD3s.
Although I won't buy cheap tires for the C5, I am curious about Avon tires for my son's Honda Civic. According to personal reviews, the Avons perform very well and are very inexpensive.
I have the sumitomo htrz2 I'm running 285/35/18 rear and 275/35/18 front.
I've had them on for about 10 month and about 15,000 miles (I drive my car a lot )
Anyways, I took them to the drag strip....spun like crazy, but I wasn't expecting a lot from a 18" tire.
Otherwise, for normal driving and a little spirited driving they're great....and A LOT quieter than the factory run flats...not that that's an issue now with my exhaust...but anyways.

I know a lot us C5 guys, especially younger owners, are trying to save a few bucks on certain items to pay for other mods. But I must give this advice:
All of our suspension(shocks, sways, springs etc...) power, and brake(pads, calipers, rotors, etc...) mods are worthless unless you have a good set of rubber on the road. The C5 runflats are expensive because they are runflats, but skimping and buying a set of tires for $600 is negating all the hardwork/money you've already dumped into your car.
I just put a set on my 01 Z06. 1K out the door installed. I am happy with them, I'm not racing the car right now, but if I did I would get a set of track tires to do it with...
Why would you want to spend $1500+ for some fancy GSD3 rain tires (or whatever) to drive down to Hooters. My $700 Kumho Ecsta ASX's have 25K miles on them, and still half the tread. I'm not a track racer, but I have no problems keeping up with anyone I know in my area on the street or in the twisties on our monthly mountain runs!!

Tires make the car,IMO.There's a piece of mind knowing you
purchased a quality set of tires, than to second-guess yourself
at 160mph by then it's too late.Tires are a priority,I can always
save up later for that mod.
Nobody said performance was cheap and that includes tires.

Go to the discount tire web site and check out all the different tires for the corvette. They have a bunch of reviews for each tire they carry. They do not carry the Sumitomo's however. I have heard that the Sumitomo's are a good tire, not the best but a good tire. I am thinking about getting these for my vette when the time comes to buy tires. I bought my car with generals alreay on them. Bad tire, lots of road noise. Go to www.tires.com I hope this helps!!!
I have the wideovals on mine, might buy again. They ride good, good in the rain, predictable in the corners(once warm) decent straightline traction on a stock car once warmed up. I'm getting awesome mileage out of them for the way I drive. My friend had the Kuhmo MX's and they wore out really fast, he drives the same as me. I was looking at the Falcon Azenis Rt615 they are cheap and perform pretty decent on the road course from what I've read. It makes it a little easier on the budget when you have a friend who can get the tires at wholesale, too bad is he 900 miles away from now.
I'm leaning toward the GSD3's or the Michelin ps2's, just need to check and see what sizes are available.

I disagree.
First on the street you can not safely push the car to the limits of the car or the tires. So your $1200 set of tires will roll down the highway towards hooters just as my $400 tires do.
Second, just cause I tire is more expensive does not mean that its better. Companies like Goodyear and Michelin spend millions on marketing and that price ultimatley gets passed on to the consumer. When was the last time you saw a comercial for Sumitumo?
I do agree that good tires are important to get the most out of your car at the track. But at the track I run race tires. Street tires at the track are generally far inferior to a track only tire.
So I'll keep my cheap street tires and run real race tires.
