Man, my fuel pump died when I was still driving on the freeway. I need to replace asap. I still have about 25% fuel in my tank. Will that be a problem? How hard is it to replace the pump? Also, what is up with the corvettes having 2 fuel pumps?
I no longer hear the whine of the fuel pump when I turn my key, so I figured its the pump. All the fuses check out too. The engine isn't getting fuel. I have a 99 c5 by the way. Thanks.

Your diagnosis is correct, the fuel pump is gone. I would try to draina s much gas out of the tank as possible before you try to pull the tank.
You can access the pump cover by removing the left rear tire. No need to remove the tank. Try using the forum search function to locate some step by step instructions.
You only have ONE fuel pump and its in the drivers tank. The passengers fuel tank has a syphon jet that works off the fuel pressure of the pump in the drivers side tank. Try connecting a 12 VDC source (battery charger or spare 12 VDC battery directly to the fuel pump hot lead. That will tell you for sure that the pump is bad or not. The negative lead of the source will be connected to the frame. If the pump runs, then you have an issue with the electrical side of the circuit.
You need to check the fuel pump fuse in the under hood fues center: Fues# 13 F/PMP (20amp)
Fuel Pump Relay relay# 35 F/PMP
The fuel pump power wire is GRAY and will be pin# A on the fuel pump connector.
Yeah my pump is dead. So if I pull the sending unit out, will gas spill out, my tank is about 25% full. I was gonna do an in-line fuel pump. How would this pull gas from the tank?
No, i was running perfect. The car ran real strong, then all of a sudden it just stop accelerating when I was driving. Now it can't hold idle when I start it. I no longer hear the fuel pump powering up either.

I feel your pain, mine went out on the way to Vegas on the 31st of
May. The fuse was blown and the replacement blew right away, so it was easy to troubleshoot.
Consider yourself lucky, I learned that mid 2003 the pump moved to the top of the tank rather than the side, so it's 8 - 10 hours of labor to change instead of 1 - 2 hours. Mine was later 2003...
I gonna switch it out tomorrow, I hope http://www.lingenfelter.com has same day shipping on the walbro unit, I don't really want to put another stock one in. I was considering the racetronix setup too but I need this done by tuesday.
Just ordered the walbro 255 pump. Gonna put it in tomorrow morning, hopefully it will be easy. Anyone got any sugesstions on how to get the excess gasoline out of my tank?
Here is a suggestion not to lose alot of gasoline, jack the back up higher than the front. The pump is in the rear of the tank, if you have a good slope to it you may not lose as much as with the car level. Naturally chock the front tires.
I installed the walbro pump this morning. Now when I turn the key, I can hear fuel pump turn on. The car cranks over everytime but can't hold idle. Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe it's your right side pump. I got good info from C4C5Specialist about the fuel pumps and how they work.
If you still have a quarter tank of gas your right side pump is probably not sending over the fuel from that side of the tank. Put in 5 gallons of gas and try to start it since it will fill up the left side first. See if she stays running. If it does, your right side may be faulty. Check your codes also. That just might tell the whole story.
I figured out the problem. The fuel pump wasn't the problem. O well now I have a walbro 255 lph pump. The problem was the sending unit. Somehow it got shorted. I'm replacing it tomorrow with a new one. Finally get to drive the C5 again, just in time to go to the Thunder Hill open track event.
