I just installed 3.42's, a Yank SS3200 Stall TC, American Racing Headers and an Elite tunnel plate in my wife's '02 C5 coupe and the improvement was dramatic. The Yank TC is anything but loose, the stiffness increase in the frame is noticeable and the car is much quicker than stock with the 2.73's.
I had already installed Z06 Ti catback so the headers only made it marginally louder which the wife was very happy with. The tone definitely changed to a lower rumble and the boat chug-a-lug exhaust note is gone.

I actually went through your exceptional post this morning. You contributed to my decision as you obviously know what you are talking about. I am going with the 3:73's because I have the 3:15 performance axle now. I don't really do much heavy highway cruising, so I've decided to trade mileage/top end comfort for a little more spirit off the line.
I have the Corsa Pace Car catbacks now, and while relatively quite in the **** pit, it sounds mean when either out of the car or, ahem applying pressure to the right most foot pedal .
In any case - you are a topnotch dude IMHO, great post, great detail, great car - and kik a$$ garage arrangement. You can give me advice anytime!!!!!!
Thanks
