NO! Sounds like you have minimal mods. Removing it on a mostly stock C5 will net you praticilly nothing and will most likely lower your part throttle fuel economy.
If you have a lot of mods that "significantly" increase air flow, I would say that it could provide you benefit. When you add those mods, the MAF is normally recalibrated to incorporate and manage the new increased air flow and air flow patterns through the MAF.
If it were me and I have the knowledge that I have now about how the maf works and what screws it up, I would leave it be unless your going to have the MAF recalibrated by a trusted tuner after you remove the screens.
My C5 is bone stock...this is my first mod...just a K&N air intake kit. According to the website, the dyno chart indicates a 18.57 HP gain...I'll be happy if it pumps out 10-12 extra!
The next thing I'd like to do is the exhaust and the rear.
IMO, aftermarket intakes AND cat back exhausts probably only give 5-10 hp at the wheels. Louder just sounds faster. If I believed any of the website claims my intake would give me 15 whp and my exhaust would give 22 whp.
