Column Lock issue ( I read the sticky)
I have a 2001 MN6, So do I have a relay on the BCM or not? I saw that discussed.
Better question, what does the relay look like or marked with, what am I looking for? I am assuming that the BCM is the Silver box next to the fuse panel...
Just FYI, My car had the GM recall done, and I got the message last night. The Column is NOT locked up but I get the message and fuel is cut off.
Thanks in advance.

failed in a position where the column is not locked but the
lock tang has not fully retracted so the computer thinks the
column is still locked, or the microswitch in the column lock
that tells the computer the column has unlocked has failed,
and the computer just thinks it is locked.
A CLB kit will probably fix your problem. The risk is that if
the lock tang is not fully seated, you don't know for sure
that it won't interfere with the steering. If you put the front
end of the car up and slowly turn the steering wheel, and
don't feel any drag or hear any scraping noises, then you're
probably good to install a CLB and go.

IF your actuator was working before the recall, a good test is to remove the panel below the steering column, disconnect the Harness K jumper, and reconnect the actuator. If the fuel does not get cut off, the relay in the harness is bad, and the dealer needs to replace it. Or, you could just replace it with an aftermarket CLB.
So, two possibilities here, either the column lock motor has
failed in a position where the column is not locked but the
lock tang has not fully retracted so the computer thinks the
column is still locked, or the microswitch in the column lock
that tells the computer the column has unlocked has failed,
and the computer just thinks it is locked.
which is just the reflash.
In any case, the latest word is that all C5 Manual cars are now
covered for column lock problems until 2008, so I guess the
answer *could* be to take it to the dealer.
If there is a recall harness in there, then a CLB might not be
the answer, due to the glitches. So, now I don't have any
more suggestions.
