Default exhaust help question

i have a 01 z06 i want to cut the pre cats out. right now i have the exhaust by pass ( home made a&a) but it isnt loud enough for me. so my first step is to see how much sound the little pups are holding back.i still feel ill need more after that because this is not my every day cruiser, its my once in awhile hot rod.so my next move would be to eliminate the mufflers completly and graft the tips back on. my buddy is a great fabricater and agreed to do whatever i want.here is the question how loud is this thing gonna be?and will it sound any good? im thinking it might be killer.and maybe free up a few ponies.its a no money deal for me too i just love that idea.

Speaking from experience,, I wouldn't waste my time messing with the stock exhaust system. You are NOT going to release any substantial power.

However clogged up it looks, its really NOT that restrictive for a STOCK engine. That being said, if you have damaged CATs that are clogged and restrictive, you will gain back all the stock power and efficiency and removal of the CATS will gain you about 7-10 Hp.

Not all that much for all the hassle.

Eliminating the mufflers will gain you the extra NOISE you desire. I say noise because its a crude way to enhance the note of your engine. It will be very loud and guttural. You will have more in cabin RESONANCE/Drone than you can stand. The resonance or DRONE is what a good exhaust system will eliminate.. TRUST ME,, DRONE SUCKS!!

Especially if you have an A4 Auto Trans. If you have an MN6/MN12 Trans, you can shift around the drone points for the most part but, it still is very annoying.

Save your cash and labor for a Long Tube Stainless Header system!

Add a good cold air intake system like VARARAM and get a tune. You will be extremely happy!!

100% Do not hack up your exhaust. If you have z06 titanium mufflers in good condition. Remove them without cutting anything. They r worth about $300.00. If you want to learn the hard way, buy a used set of straight pipes and try them. You'll see, I mean hear/feel.

If you want to see what a NO muffler system sounds like on the cheep,, just get some longer muffler flange bolts and put a half inch spacer between the flanges between the muffler and the mid pipe.

Don't leave it there too long because the exhaust will crap up the under side of your car if left for a long time.
