Default car overheating need help, please

I cleaned the debris between the radiators and put the cover back on and now my fans don't come on and the cr overheats. I checked all the connections I could find and the fuses but still not working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

Try flipping on your A/C it will bypass and turn on fans, if not you'll need to check for codes and post back more info.

What temp do you consider overheating? If the A/C isn't turned on the fans do not start high speed operation until the coolant temp hits 233 degrees.

Default Maybe its not the fans?

I turned on the AC and the fans came on fine. The fans do not come on until 233 degree? When I am driving the cars temp stays around 199 degrees, when I am idleing the temp rises quickly. Is that normal? I'm affraid if I get stuck in traffic it may overheat. Thanks for the info.

You might want to find a local shop that can turn on your fans at a lower temperture if you're worried. Lots of guys do a 160 thermostat at the same time.

My car stays at around 190-191 when moving for a while but if I get stuck in traffic then it'll rise very quickly. When in Chicago for Bloomington Gold a few weeks ago I got stuck in traffic on I-294. Waiting at a toll booth I commonly saw temps of up to 228 degrees but nothing higher than that as the fans came on at that temp. I recently added a bottle of water wetter. Read that w/ a 50/50 mix w/ dexcool the temps may drop 8 degrees or so. It'll still run 190 or so as the thermostat controls that temp. $.02

Perhaps the normal operating temps on a C5 are higher than you are accustomed to.

The stock thermostat is nominally a 190 F unit. Once the system heats up, the lowest temperature it will run is 185-195 F, depending on the individual thermostat. Below that temp, the thermostat begins closing to maintain that temp. My 02 runs at 194 when the thermostat is closed, and there is airflow through the radiator.
During stop and go traffic, or any other situation where there is low airflow through the radiator, the coolant temp rises if the AC is off (ie the fans are off.) At about 228 F (approximately, the temp varies slightly with model year), the fans (both of them) will come on at low speed. If outside temps are cool, this may be enough to lower the temps. If the temps do keep rising, at about 235 F, the fans will go to high speed. The temps you mentioned are ops normal for an unmodified C5 cooling system.

If you have your AC on, the fans will run any time you are under 30 MPH and the coolant temp is over 165. If you turn off your AC, the fans will go off and your temps will rise.

Here are the factory settings for C-5 fans. Note the temps that they come on.

Thanks for the info. I'm happy to say my car is not overheating like I thought.

Mine is, yesterday it was 99 degrees here and my coolant hit 250+ and oil 259 Its at the dealer today, pray for me! I hate having to take it to the dealer but it is still under extended warranty and I had to get the horn membrane replaced anyway (not a job I wanted to do).
