I have the G5x3 cam already with supporting mods and was looking at heads. My question is would the Patriot Stage II LS6 style heads with 2.02/1.57 valves and a 59cc chambers work well with what I have without flycutting ? Thanks
That would be a good question to ask LG. I have the G5x3 as well with stock heads that are ported polished and shaved to a 59cc chamber and I had to flycut. Flycutting is actually kind of easy, a little nerve racking, but I did it in my garage. Good luck with the head choice.
with a 59 cc chamber you will need or should fly cut too assure clearnce
In this case, the chamber size is irrelevant...but it's the oversize valves that will reduce clearance.
Patriot LS6 "style" heads are actually 6.0l heads that have had the chambers welded up to reduce chamber volume. Since the head isn't milled to achieve that smaller chamber size, it doesn't kill p/v clearance.
Even if the OP's cam is on a 114 lsa, I still think flycutting would be needed/highly recommended with those larger valve sizes, and definitely if a thinner head gasket was to be used.
As said above, flycutting is no big deal, I did mine too. I wouldn't let that procedure keep me from getting the optimum compression ratio and maximizing the ipotential of the heads/cam.
