Default EPA Says No More 02 Simms!

We stopped carrying 02 simms awhile ago. Looks like the EPA got to Casper's -

I've been following this over on Tech. I'm VERY surprised that the SEMA Action Network isn't all over this.

Wonder what's next, I would think the aftermarket converters would also be a target since you can't touch those either unless the original's fail.

Thanks for posting this Tom, I was unaware.

SO for ppl that live in areas that vehicals need yearly inspections. Keep a copy of your tune on a disk or with your tunner.

Now I dont know if this is BS or not, but I would not be supprised

Damn!! not only fined but they must recall and purchase back all of their devices sold to consumers and distributors.

Actually, I'm not really surprised, I have seen way to many magazine articles recently that talk about and show exhaust systems with the catalytic converters removed. If you want to remove your converter and don't have yearly inspections then you need to keep it quiet, it is afterall a federal requirement.

This was really only a matter of time. Realistically, while we all like to do it time to time, you're really just skirting around federal law by messing with cats and headers. Still sucks though.

I don't personally tune my car, but if someone like HPTuners or EFI Live were to produce a piece of software that would simply upload and download my tune for this express purpose I would buy it. Then I wouldn't need to return to my tuner unless something needed to be done.

I see this being a larger problem with the aftermarket cam/head/LT crowd. Many FI cars will run ok when they're not boosting on the stock tune but not cammed cars!!!!

I know for a fact my 228/232 barely ran with stock tune....

Hopefully this doesn't extend to OBD2 but I'm sure its already in motion.

If it uploads a stock tune without your permission/knowledge, you might be able to have a lot of fun off the stations back.
Just because it's modified, doesn't mean it won't pass, and if it'll pass as is, then they shouldn't f*** with it.

Out of all the cars and trucks on the road, what percentage do you think is actually skirting the law with a tune, sim's or no cats????

I think this is just harassment. If it passes the test, who cares how it got there!

BTW, spend a day in Phoenix, where testing has been in place for a long time, and you would be surprised at how many smoke spewing junkers are still on the road.

That's the issue, if you upload a stock tune and then drive it to make sure all OBD II tests are complete, you will likely have codes and fail. Vicious circle unless you go back to stock. Hopefully I will be too old to care before they get that far, or be somewhere that they don't even test.

All this and Al Gore is still jetting about in a private jet spewing his crap and polluting more than we ever will in a single trip!!!! Talk about a hypocrite!!!

If it's labeled 'for off road use only' I don't see any way they can go after a manufacturer legally.

That label is supposed to mean just that.
It puts the burden of legality squarely on the end user.

I get the impression Casper's needed better legal representation.

Thats what i was wondering. If they mark it as "off road use" then why dont they go after the people using them "wrong" instead?

You can still get o2 sims. There is a company in canada that is making them. I dont see how the new software can just flash a stock tune into a car. I dont see anything like going to happen.

If the ECU is locked then perhaps they wouldn't be able to return it to stock.

who needs 02 sims anyway. Just tune out the 02 sensors.

As for being able to reflash the computer, I don't see how they'll be able to get away with it legally considering all the $$$ supercharger companies have paid to be compliant, and their products REQUIRE an advanced tune.

There are many other legal modifications that require a tune.

Of course, our friend Ben Franklin can als solve any problem with ease...

Glad I live in FL. and not the left coast or up north.
