I just installed a head and cam package on a customers 98 C5. I used a custom grind from a local cam grinder and when everything was done there was a cam sensor issue. Come to find out there is a issue with the cam reluctor location on the new cam. The cores comes from a good source that grinds cams for many custom LSx engine builders. The problem is that the reluctor is rearward about .060" as compared to a stock GM LS1 cam. This was enough to cause the cam sensor voltage to switch to high and never come back down. The sensor has to switch from high (12v) to low (0v) in order for the PCM to find number one.
The company which will remain anominous at this time is working on correcting the issue. If they don't then I will post again with their trade name just so people will know what to look for. I will say it is not Comp Cams.
For me the problem was solved by converting to a early LS2 style front mount cam sensor. I had no choice as my cam grinder had only the same core as what was used to grind the cam I used. It is no problem with a LS2/LS7 because they don't use the camshaft reluctor. When the problem shows itself, the engine has an extended crank when attempting to start the engine, it wlll also pop and fart a bit in the intake track as the PCM attempts to locate #1, once it starts it runs. It will also throw DTC P0343.
Just want to thank Andy again as I called him 3 times tonight because I got the P0343c on my new motor. Obviously I was a little concerned Andy told me to reverse the polarity (2 outside wires on the Cam Sensor Harness) and the error code is now gone ! Apparently a bunch of the wire kits used for the LS2 Cam sensor have been wired backwards ! So if you notice your car is hard to start and is burping and farting from the intake through the exhaust trying to start this may be the problem if you have the P0343 Error code.
And thanks for the quick respoonse and Help TJWONG !!!

Same thing here! New 427 from A&A (for C5 Z06), same harness, same error code. I guess I need to switch the outer wires as well...
