i have a 99 c5 with 26,750 miles. today on the way home from work, i got the reduced engine power, check gauges, and tire pressure monitor lights on at the same time. so i pull over, resart, and on my way. right a way i check the tps(i could not get to it with all the light flashing).... front 39 and 38 rear 36 and 41. minutes later all the lights come on again. pull over let some out of the one with 41 and resart. now i have 39, 38 front and 36 and 40........ lights on again!... pull over let some more out of the 40 and front with 39. restart, now i have 36, 38 front and 36, 37 rear...... i am thinking i got it licked right?? wrong!, just as i get home all the lights come on again. 2 questions, what is wrong with my car?? and if i put new wheels and tires on with no sensors at all, how do i keep the car from promting me all the time? thanks in advance, curt

I know his is a '99, but on the 04's and most likely all the C5's, if the tps detects 42 or above, the high tire pressure warning message is displayed. If the system senses a tire pressure between 5-25psi, the low tire pressure warning message is displayed. And if the system senses below 5psi, the flat tire warning message is displayed. After this message, 2 chimes will sound followed by the message MAX SPEED 55MPH, the next message to appear is REDUCED HANDLING.
So, Reduced engine power is possible with low <5psi. Maybe with all tires being so high, it caused the reduced engine power to be displayed?

Anyway, put them at 30psi cold and see if that corrects the problem.
me thinks you have something else going wrong. check to see what codes you have and check your battery voltage. i would first suspect a weak battery but codes will tell us more. search on this site fore how to check codes or in your owner's manual. not too difficult. then, report the codes on here. you can even search here for code definitions.
I bought my vette used, and there was a similar problem. It turned out to be a grounding issue, do you have some thing that periodically causes large amounts of amperage?
I would check the passengers foot well and see if it got wet. The BCM is located behind the toe board and if it gets wet/damp, very strange like that will happen.
Check the carpet underlayment and see if its wet/damp. Feel back as far as you can under the carpet. Let me know your results. There are lots of ways water gets in but its most likely a clogged HVAC drain. Bet you were running the AC weren't you!
thanks everyone! Bill, the air was on full tilt! not sure if the carpet will still be wet today(if it was), but i will check when i get home. how do i unplug the hvac drain? also what do you do if you have wheels with no sensors?????
well, carpet seems dry and no sign of water around the fuse and pcm area. the guy i got the car if from just put in a new battery, i tightened the ground 1/2 turn and the pos. 1 1/2 turns. it had about 15 codes all with an h after them. in my frustration of not being able to wright them down fast enough, i just cleared them all and will see if they come back. btw, cold, the tires were 31,33,30,29. i set them all at 30. i will drive and see what happens. thanks for all the info, i will keep you posted.
The C5 and C6 Corvettes are extremely sensitive to power fluctuations and low battery voltages. Loose battery cables are never a good thing and it was good that you found it and corrected it. The terminals should be torqued to 11 ft/lbs.
If you go into the Diagnostics "MANUAL" mode,,you can scroll through the DTC at your leisure. Here is a very good website that explains all there is to know about your DTCs and how to read them:
This is the absolute best C5 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) web site!!!
Go to “technical data base” and then to “Corvette ECM Computer Codes”. Then select your year car. Read the instructions and then scroll down to the "READ MORE" window to view the code definitions.\
YES! i finally had a chance to drive the car today. after setting it off a bunch more times, i traced it down to some kind of short in the harness to the right door. found it by chance as at first i thought it was the extra load of the ac. turn the air off and roll the windows down, and nothing on the rt door would work, pw,pl, light off on buttons. wiggle the boot the wires go through untill the button lights come on and every thing is fine. as long as the door is powered up every thing is ok. after i got home from the cruise i went on today, i pulled the boot out of the door side and hinge side and after some pulling and pushing on the wires i figure the short is not in the door. i left it at that and i will tear in to the kick plate area tomorrow and find the short. thanks every one for the help.
Theres a very common issue with both door wiring harnesses. Just pop off the boot and pull the harness up and examine the connectors looking for bare wires
Tape up the wires or insulate them with liquid electrical tape.
