Default techies i have a problem with my codes =(

well I was just pulling into my neighborhood when a warning light came on "reduced engine power." my car stalled and I sat there saying to myself ... please god dont make me pull out my credit card and go into debt.

Also the traction control ,,service ABS light has been coming on from time to time.

I'm scared about the cost of this. Why did that warning "reduced engine power." come on and I'm scared if I'm driving my car on the highway or basically anywhere this is dangerous!

any help? advice?

I just pulled the codes and here is what I have

10-PCM 2 CODES - P1431H & P1518H
28-TCS 2 CODES - C1225H & C1278H
60-TPC 1 CODES - U1160H
AO-LDCM 2 CODES - B2252H & U1064H
A1-RDCM 1 CODES - U1064H

I looked up what all these codes meant:

P1431H = FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 2 PERFORMANCE
PI518H = THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL (TAC) MODULE SERIAL DATA CIRCUIT
C1225H = WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT
C1278H = TCS TEMPORARILY INHIBITED BY DCM
U1160H = LOST COMMUNICATION WITH XXX
B2252H = DOOR KEY CYLINDER CIRCUIT
U1064H = LOST COMMUNICATION WITH XXX
U1064H = LOST COMMUNICATION WITH XXX

what do all these codes mean? some posts mentioned issues with fuses and other things. I'm confused but I want to save money. How can I go about it step by step to possibly fix this myself.

Warning I'm a layman

is your car a 97/8? TAC module failures are somewhat common in those year, read Bill's grounding info on the top of C5tech

You have a 98 the 97-98 C5's had a known issue with defective Throttle Actuation Control (TAC) modules. It was identified on a TSB BUT, not ever turned into a recall campaign.

If you have the OEM TAC module FOR YOUR YEAR C5, it is most likely the cause of your problem. Even if it is the original module, and you figure out that is not the cause of your issue it's a good proactive measure to get an updated TAC. Its a plug and play module and something that you can do your self with only hand tools. Its so simple even a cave man or an "ACTOR" can do it!

Recommend that you examine the TAC Module, figure out if it is is the original module. You can look at the part number and contact Gene Culley @ GM Partshouse.
http://www.gmpartshouse.com/

He will be able to tell you what module it is and what one you should up-grade to. He has the best prices and best service. There about $230 ish. at his discount! Normally $400+

There are other things that can cause this issue but the TAC module replacement is the most logical thing to replace.

Looks like your having Door Control Module issues also. Theres a known issue with the door wiring harnesses. One of the wires on one of the door harness connectors pulls out of the sheaf and grounds out. It can cause weird PCM BCM issue. When I get home tonight, I will hook you up with that info.

If you have never cleaned your Grounds, thats a VERY good place to start. I have a sticky that you should read. It details corrective measures for a LOT of the things that your experiencing:

If you have questions, just let me know.

REMEMBER! Examining, cleaning and repairing your ground is FREE!

what do you clean the wires with and ground? I see white dust on the wires below the battery from a previous spill. I had a mechanic clean it and he charged me up the a)()*.

I still see white residue on the wires but the wires have tape around them and I dont know how to clean them and with what.

I wish I knew more about all this as I feel so helpless when I'm looking under the hood.
