A hose clamp worked really well to press in all three tabs at once.

Wow this is an old thread... Looks like you got it figured out, but in case you didn't; depress the tabs and pull. Might help you to hit it with a little pb blaster or wd40 first...

Since I couldn’t find any other threads and this one covered my problems with getting the old parking brake out which were addressed here I thought I’d add what worked for me. I didn’t realize that the part with the big spring and teeth would rotate back to release tension on the cable in order for you to get the cable out of the retainer hole. So I drilled a hole in the back side of the old housing to pop the retainer out and just used a screwdriver to get the cable out of the track. I also just used a flat screwdriver to push in the three tabs in the picture on the previous page. Then finally realizing about the spring portion with the teeth rotating back was able to put the new cable in really quick. Hope that helps people in the future since this was the only thread really addressing these problems searching here and on google.
