I just bought a 2001 C-5. I knew when I bought the car the window wasnt working. There is a noise when the button is pushed, but nothing happens. I think its the regualtor or the gear. I went to a shop and got a quote of $614.00. This was alot more than I thought it was going to be. Does this sound right or should I go somewhere else?

Mine does this ... I "fix" it by holding down the 'down' button, and giving the inside handle of the door a good whack with my fist. (If that doesn't do it, remove the door panel and while holding down the down button knock the door panel just opposite the regulator motor wihtthe head of a screwdriver.) I think the bushings in the motor get 'frozen' and the whack loosens them up. Once you get it going roll the window down/up once or twice a week (keeps the bushings clean).
As for $614 ... if you want to replace it I'd get a replacement from Gene Culley at GMpartshouse.com and do it yourself. It is an EASY job and takes about 2 hours (taking your time) to replace the window regulator assembly.

Search the forum. This is a common problem. The replacement motor is about $65 rebuilt, complete regulator is about $140 or so from supporting vendors here. Did the dealer say if the $614.00 included the KY jelly and a kiss? If not, you're REALLY getting screwed.

Good luck!
Very common with our cars and other GM cars...These things do lock up... You may have to take the door panel off and gently hit the motor with a rubber mallet,hammer,stick,etc.. Happened once to me so far in my C5.. Happened 2 times in my 2000 Chevy Blazer.. Most people take them to a repair shop for no good reason
Try this! Open the door. Press the window DOWN Button. With the other hand, grab the rubber accordion tube between the door and door frame and shake the crap out of it. See if that solves the problem! If that doesnt work, smack the door panel below the arm rest with your fist while holding the button.

Smack the door, hit the motor, spank the monkey, whatever.
Finally gave up and replaced the motor. Should have done that in the first place since all these other things just prolong the inevitable anyway.
My passenger window wasn't working either. The DIC was saying that there was no communication with the passenger door. I opene the door and wiggled the boot that the wiring goes through, and it fixed the problem.
It's happened two or three times in the last year and I'm guessing it's just a loose connection or something, but if all I have to do is wiggle the boot... it's not worth taking it apart in my opinion.

This happened to my car a month ago and a buddy that works for gm read a service bulletin about the the wiring and the conectors getting widened out and not making a conection! ppen you door and pull the wiring out and check the inside of the plug!
Thanks for the help guys. I tried the suggestions, no luck. It may just be a bad motor. Now when I press the button it makes a very quiet nosie. Like its working at a 1 when it needs to be a 10. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I could take it in the South Florida area to get checked out?
