Default electrical problem

car gave me the codes for traction and lost power. went through all the gounds cleaned them all and all were pretty good. the battery had some corosion on the poss cable all ceaned now. the problem is when the car is started the amps show 13.1 if i put on the a/c or the lights it drops into the 12.8 range. if i put the rear defrost on it drops to 11.5 and stays there once i shut it off it will go back to 12.8 never over 13. could this be the battery or altinator? any ideas? thanks

How did you get the plug separated to clean the ground plugs? Does the plug have a plastic tab that has to clear ? Help!

Doesn't appear to be charging, so alternator or battery, assuming the wiring is good. You need to test them.

If the battery is old, I would replace it and recheck.

You will get voltage drops due to load. If you raise the rpm level by applying some gas it (voltage) should go up, if not you'll need to check you connections, battery, alternator.

You should not see 11.5v with the engine running. Thing is, this should trigger a low voltage warning that was not mentioned...

My money is still on a bad battery.

I just was stating that you'll get some voltage drops due to loads from turning on various electrical appliances.

I don't know what set-up he has like a 10% under drive, etc and he didn't give much info to go on.

That's what mine does. My other C5's averaged 12.5 - 14.0 depending on load.

its been driving me nuts because i think it used to be higher. i have spent so much time on this cleang grounds and all. was cocerned because the sevice engine reduce power thing happened and thought it was because of the charging system being low now it seems the only problem is i keep getting a history code after clearing it several times the code is p1571h

That is normal for a fully charged battery. Leave your lights on with the car off for 15-20 minutes and then see what you get.
