Default Stuck on a cam

I have an 01 Z06 with CAI and 1 7/8 Headers with full exhaust. I cant decide what cam i want to go with from what i've seen texas speed has impressed me the most. Their MS4 cam is putting out 80 rwhp but is really bad in the lower rpm's for daily driving. They also have the Torquer v3 which doesn't produce as much power but is a better daily driver cam. Does anyone have these cams and can you give me numbers and your experience with them, or just any input at all would be great.

I think the fist question to ask, is "What do you want your car to do?"

DD, take it to the strip, bar race, or what?

Both cams are very good cams.

SInce you have 1 7/8 headers, which have been shown for better top end HP, a larger cam may be more to your liking.

as DD the car is fairly mild, but once past 3000-3500 rpms it takes off. The only challange MAY BE, that low rpm launches or slow speed take offs may be lagging a bit.

Rember it is UNDER THE CURVE, not high HP numbers that wins races.

the TSP web site ( and forum vender) has good in on each cam.

I do like the MS4 info, but would not put that into a DD. But that is just my opnion.

Good Luck with you research.

AU N EGL has an excellent point. figure out what you want to do, and then talk to a tuner (or shop) and figure out the best cam for you. I gave my specs to Slowhawk and he spec'd out a custom cam from Comp that suited what I wanted to do. Great idle, gains over stock from 2500rpm up , and a broad torque range which makes the car fun on the street. Peak hp is all well and good for racing, but TORQUE is what you want for stoplight and twisty fun.

Well i'm not a very vicious person on the street but on the strip. I do drive the car to work probably about 3 days out of the week but don't really use the power only on rare occasions when i'm feeling routy. Most of my heavy driving is done on the strip. I'm trying to do the least amount of mods possible cause i'm trying to keep the car as stock as possible but looking for mid 11's. With the larger headers i know a larger cam would help a lot but i'd like to not change the heads.

Dare I say that you should get a dry 100 shot of nitrous? You can get everything you need with the tune for 1000 bucks.... Totally stock car until you turn it on....

I have the G5X3 cam from LG motorsports, I DD my vette to work and love it. It makes good low end torque and has pretty good high end numbers for the strip as well. To be in the mid 11's your probably going to need to do something with the heads, I had a buddy of mine port and polish my stock heads just cause it was cheap, but if I was to do it over again I would spend the money and buy some good heads. Heads are the key to a powerful engine.
