engine help
Ok so i just bought my first Z06 vette. 
One big problem is that it has a blown engine. (ran too much boost and cooked the #7 piston.)
So i have a project on my hands
. I was thinking of building a budget 383, or just getting some head work done and putting new pistons back in with a big cam.
Was wondering what you guys thought, or any power #'s anyone might have with different setups.

LSX 427c.i. shortblock. I saw a display recently at Carcraft I think they were going for around 4-5k, I have a flyer but I cant find it right now. Thats just what I would do if starting with a blown engine. I am currently running a stock LS1 with a mild port and polish on the stock heads and the G5X3 cam. I made 410 rwhp and 380 rwtq, always looking for more though. good luck with your project.

sorry i forgot to mention that i do not have the blower. it was removed and sold.
I do have the injectors, long tube headers, and cat back exhaust. The original LS6 block and heads have already had all the refinishing work done
All i really need is a set of pistons, bearings, big cam, and springs. I'm trying to figure out if the 383 would be worth the extra $$ or not.

Thanks for the information guys.
I just started looking at the 402ci engines too. There are so many options... i guess i want to get to 500rwhp (+10, -35) with the fewest $$$ spent.
so i guess the question should have been... How do i get to that goal?

I hate to say it, but you might as well go big now. You wont be satisfied with ~400rwhp for long; I know I'm not; that STS twin turbo is looking mighty tasty. I can't wait until you have that thing running. Good luck.

I really do want the 383.

if ur crank is not hurt and u have big injectors allready why not put forged rods and pistons then use stock crank. that set up will support enough hp to kill almost all ur drive train. with a good cam and a big hit of spray (cause u allready got big injectors). if im not mistaken tsp said they had cars pushing 800 hp with just that.
-pistons & rods $800-900
-nitrous with all the goodies around $1000+
-a very short lived clutch $1000 and up (textralia) might as well u done got the motor out
-cam and all the supporting hardware around $750-1000
- one bad a** z PRICELESS
- im thinking 450+rwhp on motor and 600+rwhp on bottle hows that for budget

That is the best news i've herd in a long while.
I think i would rather have the HP all the time instead of the spray. that $1000 could be a good forged crank...
Oh the options.
p.s. to update the project... I have moved the vette into the garage and have a pile of parts in my bedroom. That's about it .

i decided to go with a stock block 50 over and stock crank
-engine pro rods
-manley pistons, w/ total seal rings
-roll master timming
-melling oil pump
-patriot performance stage 2 cnc heads with over sized stainless valves
-comp cam
adv dur. -283 287
dur. @.50 -243 287
lobe sep -113
lift -589 605
-textralla clutch and fly wheel
-arp head studs
-long tube headers

Ok.... i have a small problem....
I am at the point where I am putting the covers on the motor and have run into a small problem... The front cover doesn't fit over the Roll Master double roller chain and Melling oil pump. I thought i was going to have to shave some metal away but it's looking like i am going to have remove the entire inside lip of the cover.
Has anyone had this problem? Is there a different cover or pre-cut cover available anywhere?

cant help there, ive never installed either of those parts
. witch is hitting the pump or chain? if its just chain maybe just go with ls2 setup alot cheaper and tsp says good for ur hp goals. as for the pump if bad goes to worse $130 will get u a ported ls6 pump. sorry could not be more help with the prob. at hand. just dont get frustrated take a break
maybe its just something u have over looked. as for power out put i did not see compression numbers but with a good set of heads and a cam that large if its 10.5 plus i would be disappointed with anything less than high 4s (475+) rwhp and would keep fingers crossed for 500 rwhp or so good luck and just keep thinking of the day that the beast is shaking the ground.

It turns out the oil pump i have is the high capacity pump. So it is about 2 to 3mm wider than a factory pump. I am going to keep the double roller chain and go with the Melling high pressure pump instead. That should clear up my space issues.
so in case anyone is thinking of trying a double roller chain and a high capacity oil pump it is not going to fit without a $425 front cover
