You actually want the window part way down.
This lets you get at the retainers that hold the window to the
regulator, but also lets your assistant have a firm grasp of the
window glass while you remove and later re-install it.
Once you get the door panel off, it will be pretty obvious when
the window is in about the right position for this operation.
