I have a couple of questions about anti Freeze. Do any of you guys choose to use the prestone dex-cool over the gm dex cool, and should I decide to change to the prestone do i need to do a total flush or can I just do a drain and refill with the prestone? In other words is it compatible with gm dex cool if it is mixed?......... Thanks
At one time the Prestone didn't meet GM specs, I assume it does now. I haven't been able to find the Texaco any more (who developed Dexcool for GM) since Texaco was bought out. The Prestone bottles I have read now claim to meet the requirement and should be fully compatible. We recently installed Prestone in a friends car, no issues to date. (Don't use the green Prestone though).

I think Texaco was planning to move its production of DexCool out of the United States, so a lot of parts stores, and Walmart quit carrrying the Texaco Havoline brand. (Buy products made in the USA! )From what I understand, Prestone is now a GM approved DexCool manufacturer. I bought a couple of the last Texaco brand DexCool that Walmart had, so next time I need it, I guess I will buy the Prestone. I would not be surprised if the DexCool that you get from the dealer is not also manufactured by Prestone now.
