Default Ready to do H/C install, am I missing anything?

Thanks to the parts forum and a lot of shopping I have now acquired most everything I need to do my weekend project for the head and cam install. Just wanted someone to look over the parts list and make sure I am not missing anything that would be a good idea to add at this time.

Heads (w/ gasket install kit, head bolts)
cam
Fast intake and 90mm TB (w/ gasket kit)
timing chain and key
pushrods
cold air intake
throttle body by-pass
t-stat and gasket
MSD plug wires

Things I might add (not sure)
high flow MAF
Shorty headers
3.42 or 3.73 rear diff (undecided on which one to use)

This car must stay CA emissions legal. Head and cam will pass, all parts have been ordered to pass so far, can't do full length headers for this reason.

Please let me know if I am missing anything or need to add anything. Once the car is done it will be driven the short 2 mile drive over to A and A Corvette for a full tune.

*I will also add nitrous somewhere down the road but for now, I am hoping to make 420 rwhp with this set up.

You could also add a ported oil pump, underdrive pulley, new spark plugs...

I have considered the U/D pulley, will it affect my stock electrical? What benefit will it add, such as hp?

Just installed a Powerbond UD pulley, nice piece. Should be good for about 5 hp. I would add to your list:

Water pump gaskets

Timing cover gasket

Front Seal

Timing chain may not be needed (we are just finishing an 04, had the LS2 chain in it already)

Redline Assembly Lube

Exhaust gaskets

Two 3/8" rubber vacuum caps to cover PS lines

Two gallons of Dexcool and two gallons distilled water

Oil and filter (for after startup and you put on a few miles)

Tools:

Adjustable pushrod

Make a tool to install the pulley

Don't follow pulley removal precedure on LS1Howto.com, i.e., don't push on the old bolt

ATI crankshaft pin kit

Dial indicator

Prolly should add a case of your best mechanically inclinded friend's beer and some aspirin, cause nothing goes as planned.

Just remember to get all the water out of the bolt holes. May want to put in new lifters (caddy racing or LS7) depending on the miles on the motor.

Vettenuts....don't all those gaskets come in a headset? I told them I wanted the gasket set to do a head swap complete, so I just assumed that it would be a complete upper engine gasket set.

That cam is too small to make 420 RWHP! I would recommend going bigger.

If its an A4 go to the 3.42's and get a high stall converter.

Not sure, when you get the kit let me know. I also picked up two o-rings for the power steering lines just to ensure no leakage.

A head kit typically includes head gaskets, intake, valve cover and exhaust. Water pump and timing cover are separate. If you still have the little vents on the exhaust, those are extra also.

Thanks for the heads up on the gaskets guys. I would have hated to be torn down and have to make a run to parts store in the middle of the project. I just ordered every gasket needed.

I am still undecided on shorty headers or risk doing full length and pass smog at some point down the road. I just had it smogged 2 months ago when I bought it so I don't think I have to smog it for 4 years or so.

I have 224/224 and made 411 on a mustang dyno.

your cam is fine and will work great on the street.

I just did mine a few months ago..so heres my tips as it was my virgin attempt as well

1. buy a new front seal!
2. make sure you clean every spec out of the head bolt holes on the block. use the old bolt trick on LS1howto.com
3. pull the AC along with the radiator so you have ample roon to put in cam
4. be carefull using the RTV on the bottom of the timing cover, make sure its nice and clean and a good bead. not to much or to little
5. buy a new pulley, the stock one sucks *** and wobbles all over. mine works, but it could be better.
6. get Tr55 NGK plugs for the colder rating
7. make sure the sproket and crank line dot to dot!!!
8. DO NOT DROP THE OIL PUMP BOLT IN THE OIL PAN!!!!!
9. just follow tyh instructions on ls1howto.com, you'll be fine. and take your time

EDIT, also, dont waste your time with short headers, get long tubes. It will help the H/C breathe much better

If you are still undecided about the long tubes, at least go with the shorties; you'll be that far into it, it would be a shame to 'lose' on any power gain possiblities.

I am fortunate enough to be doing this install at my friends shop. I will have a rack, compressor and all the tools and goodies I can get my hands on. Everything I need will be at my fingertips. I am a lucky man as far as that part of it goes, that and both my friend and I are former techs.

I agree a 224/224 cam with TEA heads should net 425HP. Your using a FAST intake,. I'm thinking 435HP.

I would install the shortys if you have them on hand. You dont wanna install those nice heads and then have to reinstall the stock cast irons.

just my .02
