Default Anyone have a key chart

Does anyone have a key chart. The chips on my key for a 98 vette convert showed 14. I need to know which number key I need to order. The dealership is high. I seen it once before where you can meter the chips and order a blank key from somewhere else, but now when I search im not getting the thread.

Also, do you have to have a chip in the key just to open the doors. If not, i thought it would be nice just to have one at the house if i lock my keys up.

Thanks in advance for any help.

No you don't need the chip to unlock the doors. If you use your current key you will see that the key doesn't even go into the door lock far enough to read it.

When I purchased my C5 back in 1998 GM sent me a metal key in a plastic sleave the size of a credit card just such emergencies.

Where did you get the info for the key that says "14"?
I looked on my key and didn't see any numbers at all.

It's NOT on the KEY. The dealer and some locksmiths have as FANCY ohmmeter which converts the values shown above to a number. Get a blank 2 sided VATS key on fleebay for less than $10 and pay a LOCKSMITH about $2 to make a new one. Don't go to Home Depot or Kmart and let them RUIN your good blank. BIGHANK
