Some time ago I purchased a ported a TB from a Forum Member. Have not installed it, because I noticed a small gap, perhaps 1-2mm, between the top butterfly plate, and the top of the TB. Is this normal, or was there a mistake made in porting the top side of the TB (perhaps with too much enthusiasm?
However, if the butterfly plate was ground down, and that gap should not exist, I guess I can always use the plate presently in my current TB.
The plate and the area around the plate are not usually touched in a porting job but after the TB is ported, you can see the gap between the throat and the plate becuase of the material removed in front and behind the plate. This is normal. If you push the plate vertical it should completely close the opening and make a seal against the TB.
The electronic controls will move the plate to a position to control air flow for the correct idle setting.
In a NON powered up scenario, the plate will NOT be completely shut! The PCM and TAC module tell the TB blade what position to go to. It will spring open slightly when theres no position signal to it. Sounds normal to me.
