I just recently did the flip tie mod and I must say the throttle response is amazing and I can notice the difference at higher speeds. So my question is has anyone dynoed there car with just this mod alone? Im hearing 10-14 rwhp ?
Hmmm. I'm not sure why that link is no longer valid. I have the .pdf file on my hard drive. If you would like me to email it to you, just PM me with your email address. The file is 1.5mb (large), so be sure you have a high speed connection and/or that your ISP doesn't limit file sizes (sometimes the free services limit attachment sizes).
The Flip Tie mod will allow you use somewhat cooler air going to the engine. This is especially true a low speeds. Where this helps the most is hard acceleration at low to moderate speeds. Once you near top end speeds the IAT are closer to ambiant temps regardless of Flip Tie or stock. If you switch to a Cold Air system like Callaway, Ice Box or VeraRam you will have even colder air.
Unless you are running serious high RPM heads/cam this wont yield much of anything at all. The OE set up isn't as restrictive as CAI manufacturers would have you believe.

Can you tell me how the Callaway Honker could give you even colder air than this mod?

I don't know, the air to the "FLIP-TIE" mod is coming from the same place as the Honker. Maybe Gordy M is referring to the Ziptie mod which is entirely different.

There must be some, since a simple Halltech intake swap yielded me about 12 RWHP. The other issue with the stock setup (except Z06s) is that the air being drawn into the intake is very warm (more so with headers). During slow-moving or stop & go driving, the engine bay temperature can soar up over 140F. When this happens, the ECU dials back ignition timing to avoid knocking (predetonation). You can easily lose 10 HP because of this.
The flip tie mod helps to keep the intake air temp close to that of outside temps, but it doesn't help keep engine electronics (like the EBCM), belts and hoses from being exposed to that scorching engine bay heat.
This is why my cold air mod channels outside air at and past the intake filter to both cool off the air being ingested by the intake AND to keep the engine bay at decent temps. Z06s do something similar, although not as directly as my scoop mod.
