Default after headers install question...

i received my headers in the mail this morning and i am wondering if after installing them if i HAVE to HAVE it dyno tuned asap.

i know i NEED to have it dyno tuned eventually for optimal performance but it is something i need to have done immediately?

will the car perform worse after installing headers if not tuned ?

i have a 2000 m6 with no mods except for k&n fipk intake and borla stingers.

the reason i am asking this is because i am saving for 3:90 gears also, and i will wait to have it all installed and tuned at the same time if i have to. but if i can install the headers with no performance loss or problems without tuning then i will install them and wait to tune till after i get my 3:90s.

thanks a bunch everyone

How soon you planning on doing the gears?

You don't have to get it dyno-tuned RIGHT away simply cause you added headers, but you are probably going to get a few O2 sensor codes that you will have to keep deleting - no big deal

I think I drove about 1200 - 1500 miles or so after I installed my headers, but before I had it dyno-tuned and I didn't have any problems, other than an occassional code that I needed to clear.

a tune is not necessary just because of a header install, but without a tune, your engine won't run as efficiently.

If I were you thought,I would get the tune before the gears.

I ran mine for 3 months and 9K miles before I got a tune.
I did get those annoying P0420 P0430 (low catalytic converter efficiency) codes about 1x per week until I had them turned off.

roger that. thanks guys for the input, i really appreciate it. i think i am going to head over to ECS in the next 2 weeks for a dynotune, and then have the gears thrown in there in a month or 2 down the road when i have enough funds saved for it.

I gotta 2k 6spd. also,I put in heads, cam, borlas, intake etc.(borlas which I took off for ti's)mine ran fine,no codes , I took it to get tuned ,the only thing I noticed they did was raise the idle for $450 from the overrated board tuners here.
