Default Texas Speed Header Questions...

After finally having saved up the funds to go with either American Racing or the Dynatech header systems, I approached my local speed shop about the install. Although not specializing in Corvettes, they have worked on their share...

My tech had installed a set of Texas Speed headers on another C5 and approached me with some interesting questions. If the Texas Speed headers are about $600 with the connecting pipes (to tie into stock h-pipe) or $800 for the full 3" system, how much better are the other brands? For the price of just the parts for the AR's or Dynatechs I could have the Texas Speed headers, plugs, wires, installation and dyno tune. Sure the others may be 5hp to 10hp stronger, but are they $800 to $1000 better?

Interesting questions...what does CF think?

If you ask me I don't think those other system will perform any better for the money. Ask yourself how much you want to spend to get 30 hp. For what I saved going with TSP I was able to do a cam as well.

I am in the same boat. I have had quotes of up $2100 to $2600 for headers installed. This seems like too much money for 20 to 25 hp. I am sure Kooks, dynotech and such are great products but are they worth 2 to 3 times the price of the TSP headers? Are they more difficult or have poor fitment?

cost of material to create; mild coated steel vs. Stainless.

I know that the reps/distributors for LG, AR, Kooks, and Dynatech are going to promote their product. That only makes sense. I'd like to see what some of the supporting tuners have to say...

Fitment issues? Power gains? Problems?

We should be receiving another huge shipment of Texas Speed headers late next week! Look for dyno tests in a vette magazine next month!

When you buy Texas Speed headers you get a proven quality product without paying a corvette tax, or paying for someone's race car team....

I think you should buy the Texas Speed Headers If I hadn't already bought some used headers I'd be on it like white on rice. $1800-2000 always seemed to be unreasonable to me Just me .02

GREAT price! My AIR hookup was in the wrong place - not where I ordered it to be - but I was able to bend the tubing and make it work. They went in pretty good and sound awesome. Make sure the x-pipe is in stock if you're going that route. I had to wait about 6 weeks for mine, but I knew it was out of stock when I ordered it. I'd do it again.

how is the ground clearance on these headers/x-pipe? Do they tuck up completely under the car? Looking to starting the modding on my newly aquired 01 z06. I went with kooks on my old ls1 z28 because of some of the horror stories of the other budget brands.

Does anyone have any pictures of these installed. Along the bottom of the car to show how well they tuck up or any for that matter.

thanks in advance,
Doug

Compare cost of stainless vs. stainless and mild steel vs. mild steel

Sell your corsa x pipe and go with their 3" mid section with x pipe, it will be cheaper for you and fit/install easier. Everything needed is included except gaskets. The complete setup will bolt right up to the catback. I don't know if they are offering high flow cats with their setup yet but the offroad system rocks.
