Im having some really strange issues with my C5. Sometimes (randomly) when I go to turn on my car, it wont turn over. All the accessories and electrical will come on but it wont turn over. After a few minutes of wiggling the key and putting the key in and out it will start no problem. Ive replaced the battery but it still does it. Anyone have any ideas what this might be?
Could be a variety of things. Could you be a little more descriptive about "won't turn over" ie clicking noise, starter drag.
It could range from bad connection at the starter, safety switches to bad theft deterrent components. Also check the DIC for any codes.
You may just have key issues that can easily be resolved by cleaning the key.
Well first thanks for the response. By wont turn over I mean it wont do anything at all. No clicking, no starter nothing. The accessories and stuff come on but the engine doesn't do anything. Then it will start up like nothing happened. I have a service ABS and Traction Control message.
You either have a bad Clutch Safety Switch (if you have an MN6) or a bad Theft Deterrent Relay or a bad starter solenoid. The connections on the starter solenoid can also be loose.
Mine does the exact same thing. ('02 Z06) I have replaced the battery and the clutch safety switch. When it wont start, I usually hold the key to the start position and "pump" the clutch so that the switch is pressed a number of times. Sometimes it only takes a few tries, and sometimes I look like I'm trying to kick start a dirt bike. I can only imagine what other people are thinking. My next swap will be the starter. Hopefully that will do it.
