I was pulled over last weekend for speeding but the officer did not mention one thing about my missing front plate. He also let me off with a warning (75 in a 65). However, I was helping move my sister and my dad was in a moving van ahead of me. I let him get a little ahead of me and was simply catching up. He let me off because of that. Good thing he did not clock me about a 1/2 mile up the road as I was doing about 90mph then.
For about the last year it seems DPS have the biggest on pulling drivers for nit-pickin stuff....I still think they must not have enuff to do.
Recently, they were pulling folks over around Round Rock attending a car show and ticketing for anything and everything. Each time I read this type stuff, my "respect level" goes way down for DPS. Since I don't have one (not one car when purchased) I'm not putting one one either.
Got a $50 ticket from a “parking maid” in Manhattan for missing the front plate while parked at a meter.
Also, I was pulling out of my drive way and a police car at the traffic light noticed the missing plate. He waited at the side of the street until I got on the road and pulled me over a block away from my house. I had a PBA card, so he let me go with a warning.
The front plate is still in the storage compartment at the back of the vette!
Those no front plate tickets can suck. I got one over a year ago, 1 month after I bought my vert. Then, several months ago, I got a: Failure to change address on license, Exhibition of acceleration, No seatbelt and Failure to obey traffic sign; but, no ticket for no front plate. I guess he ran out of room to write on the 2nd page. We have a date in the future. ;)
I got pull over about six months ago and the cop said they pay more attention on the vette and f-body without front plate. Some people said that you can put it inside the winshield as long as it's visible.
I was pulled over for speeding last month and the cop informed me of no front plate. I told him there was a front plate under the front; he didn't see it at first but then he didn't like it there but wrote no ticket for it. When I started the car to leave, up the plate went out of sight. I'll have to add a hidden switch this winter so the plate can stay down with the engine running in case he has a long memory.
Got a warning this morning for no front plate from a Texas DPS officer in Temple, TX.
This is the second time I've been pulled over for no front plate in 3 years. Last time I got a $125 ticket, this time, just a warning.
Is the plate going on? HELL NO!
I got pulled over for "running 85 in a 70 & no front plate", TXDPS in Garrison on Highway 59. Received verbal warning to slow it down, but he didn't mention that I needed to put my plate on. I have plate & screws/ tools in the trunk just in case, but second warning in as many years......I just look at them like, "Well, what would you do?" I ain't puttin' it on till I get a fine. Maybe not even then......moving to Indianapolis from Houston in January.
Been there, done that. Haven't had my plate on since I picked upmy '99, only one ticket so far, but I plan on putting it back on soon... it doesnt look *that* bad. Besides, its nice not having to be paranoid about cops (that is, when you're driving the speed limit! :jester )
About 2 months ago i got pulled over for no seatbelt, houston cop writes the ticket and also writes 1 for no front plates. I played dumb and said they were built not to have 1. He then shows me the filler emblem can come off.(didnt touch it). Well I told him he can write all the tickets he wants but i'm still not putting a plate on the front. 1 month later I went to court to fight the tickets. I had the recall bulletin for the seatbelt and told the judge it was stuck. ticket dismissed..For the no front plate, I told the judge i had no knowledge of it and he kept nodding his as if he understood. I even carried the plate in the court room w/me. The prosecuter then asks me did I have the plate on yet, I smile and said no, He responded"we can stop you again outside soon as the car is started". I started laughing , then the judge says dismissed and tells me i need that seatbelt on w/ a vette. I swear they must be corvette owners. Funnest time I ever had in court.
Been in Houston 21 years. Have three cars. None of my cars has a front plate. Never been ticketed. Pulled over once 20 years ago and got warning for it. Will probably have to post again tomorrow (everyone knock on wood for me). :D
