Incorrect. There is no provision in the law for that, I called them and asked that specific question.
Maybe things are different in Temple.. Went to the judge about the plate and he told me he needed a picture of the car with a front plate and he would dismiss the ticket... Gave me 30 days to do so, I did, and he dismissed the ticket.
It was not in Temple, the law is a Texas law and it is statewide. If the judge wants to let it go with just a picture, that's his discretion, but the way the law is written, there is no provision for that.

Yes, front plates are required in Texas. But I have never run one, on any of my cars or trucks. Cops can give you a hard time. I had one DPS officer hassle me during Labor Day weekend 2 years ago, and I have had one (Harris County) do it when I was out street racing one night in my 72 Nova. He told me he was going to catch me out on the street and take me to jail for no license plate ( he didn't catch me). I had a couple of run ins with cops on one of my lowered mini trucks (Pct.8 Constables most notably) but I think that was more because of the vehicle.
I think the vehicle has alot to do with whether or not they are going to hassle you or not. If you are driving a hooptie, or just generally look like a thug, expect problems. My slammed mini was a neon sign for police interest. My Vette, I just get thumbs up form them, and they want to know how fast it is.
None of my friends has ever mounted a plate on the front of their Vette. I know of one who got pulled over and told the cop he didn't care and he wouldn't put a plate on the car, and he got off with a warning. If you get caught without one, all you have to do is either show up at court with it on, or show a picture of the car with the plate on, and they will ususally charge you $10 court cost and dismiss the ticket. It is a non-moving violation like not having mud flaps or other such nonsense and will not count against you on insurance.
IMHO I wouldn't even bother with it. If you have a problem it'll cost you $10, and it look alot better without it.
Oh yea. No front plate here. I prefer the stealth approach to radar :yesnod: I am like the rest of you. Just put it on before court and take a picture. The times I have been to traffic court for speeding:cry, there have been several 'no front plate' tickets pleaded before me. The judges usually dropped with proof of plate and a court cost. Let's keep our fingers crossed if and when it happens to any of us, they think we are little :blueangel:
