I currently have Khumo MX non run flats. They are currently back ordered even by the manufacturer. Does anyone have any recomendations for replacements that last longer and have a decent appearance? Looked at Perelli P Zero Nero M+S, General Exclaim ugp and bfg G-Forse ta kdw. They all have better wear ratings. Do they actually last longer? The local tire shop will sell me the run flats for the same price but I hated the noise the Goodyears had. Anyone have the Khumo MX run flats and are they as noisy as the orig equip tires were? Any and all advise is appreciated.
Have you tried looking that the Pilot Sports? I use the non-run flats. You can choose either A/S (All Season) or regular tread. I chose the regular tread as I live in the San Diego area.
Of the high-end ultra-high-performance tires, the Goodyear GSD3s last longest. This info came directly from a back-to-back wear test by CU where they subjected each tire to the same conditions (abrasive wear).
Some of the el-cheapo tires, like the Generals and Sumitomos wear far faster than average.
I had mine put on about 12,000 miles and 14 months ago. I think they look good, (You know, the same fitment as for Ferrari!), sound quiet, and corner like a champ. I don't percieve any wear, but it's only been 12,000 miles. Look at the Tire Rack website and check out the very complete performance comparisons. That should sell you!
Enjoy!
I purchased my 2000 Vette used and it had Kuhmo MX tires. I hated them. Loud and rough riding.
I was at the "Strret Rod National" in Louisville KY in 2006 and found a tire dealer there offering Kuhmo ASX ( non run flats ) tires for my Vette.
What a difference. Great ride, quiet, and good handling. I am not a drag racer, track racing, or real hard road driving, but I do like to have my fun. These tires seem to do the trick.
Total price out the door, mounted, balanced, everything was less than $600.00. THAT IS THE TRUTH. I STILL HAVE THE RECEIPT!
I told another guy to call there, none of the salesmen are still there and over the phone they told my friend "no way" on the price but I can prove it. Maybe they screwed up but so far I like the tires. JD
Just recently purchased Sumitomo HTR Z III. Been using these for daily driving including rain for approximately one month and will continue to do so. GY runflats are on a separate set of rims for out of town trips.
Ran a full track day yesterday and must say they performed extremely well. Didn't take long to warm up, great stopping grip, very predictable when beginning to break-away and showed even wear for five sessions plus one last long open session. Improved even more as I adjusted pressure for hot temperature readings and sidewall arrow indicators.
Perhaps the "reasonable" price isn't acceptable to some but these have met my expectations and more. Can't address long-term wear which will be affected by the track use but, didn't appear to scrub off too much tread. Noise levels dropped significantly in comparison to GY runflats which is no surprise. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase again.
I want to thank everyone for their input on the tires. I will start looking again based on the responses. It seems the Goodyear DS-3 are the preferred choice of the replys. Thanks again everyone for your input.
