I have a 2002 c5 with 39,000 miles on it. The rear end makes a loud chattering noise and is really loud if the car is in neutral and you rev the engine. I took it to the dealer a couple of times over the years and they told me it is normal posi traction noise. I had the water pump replaced a few months ago and I brought up the problem again, they suggested serviceing the rear end and adding some type of additive that would quiet it down some. It did quiet if down alot but it is getting louder again. Any suggestions? can you add more of the additive they put in it, I saw a bottles of it for sale in a Mid America catalog. thanks for any suggestions.

If it does it in neutral it's not going to be related to the differential cause nothing will be moving in it. you either have something bouncing around in the transmission, or possibly have a torn torque tube bushing that's allowing the driveshaft to bounce around...

BTW, be real careful about adding that supplement to the diff too. Use too much and you might as well not even have a posi at all. You only want to use just enough to stop the clutches from chattering when going around a corner AND NO MORE. I would advise draining what you have and starting over with say Red Line or Amsoil lube. They are already premixed with the supplement. If you do get any chattering when going around a corner (doubtful), just continue to add the supplement in very small doses (start with 1 oz.) and try again. Only continue to add amounts (checking after each dose) until there is no chattering, then STOP.

Tagc5, It is not clear if you are talking about reving in nuetral with the car standing still or while moving? As stated above, if you are standing still, it will not be your rear end.
