Default Why not magnaflows

ok ive been searching for an exhaust for a few months. my question is why is no one going with the magnaflow magnapacks system that come with there true-x. i know corsa is the best i like them to but that being said when i can get the tsp longtube headers & magnaflows 15763 magnapack system shipped to my house cheaper than the cost of the indy catback. does everyone else know something i dont know. any help would be great and any exhaust clips of this system would be even better. thanx Brett

I have a friend with the magnapak system on his 01 Z06. I'm not crazy about the sound.

It's that Magnaflow exhaust plate thing that is the deal breaker for me. If they don't care about my high speed-low drag philosophy then who will?

From what I understand the infamous "drone" would kill you with that setup.

Default but

ok i understand that the magnpacks have some drone but at the rpm its at im never there. and for the 1000 dollars difference i think i could put up with alittle. there is a company called mid american motorworks that has a rateing system. that includes idle, wot, and cruise. the magnapacks scored at the same levels as the corsa indys. they where the only exhaust system to do this. that being said most eveyone will agree that a catback is only worth maybe 10 or so rwhp, vette mag. tested the magnflow system on an auto and found 22 at the ground. now maybe that car is a freak but still that is some good things that have been put out on it.

Default i have magnaflow

I have a magnaflow system on my 98, it was already installed when I bought the car. Im really happy with it, the only complaint is that when you shift into 6 gear the drone is really annoying. Other than that it sounds great. oh, and that stupid plate.

Corsa makes some fine products. Are they the best? that is up to each indvidual.

Magnaflow, well, I dont like the sound of them either. Individual preference is what its about.

I installed my Magnaflow system over 2 years ago. No problems w/ the system. I dont understand people saying Magnaflow has a bad drone problem - it is one of the least to drone. The sound of the Magnaflow is smooth and pretty quiet sounding. It is a well made system too.
I love my Magnaflow exhaust when i hit my nitrous....

Default drone

A friend has Magnflo on his coupe and the drone is very noticeable.
I would not use them for my car. Borla has a good sound at a reasonable price.

The Corsas are alot of money ,no drone at all. My stock exhaust had drone. The Corsas get a little loud when you get on it. Try to listen to other Vettes if you can,but remember, buy what you like ,its your car.

I'm using Magnaflow's X-Pipe but opted for the B&B Bullets. System is within 3 pounds of Z06 Titanium and also advertises 22 max Hp at the wheels. I rarely believe stated hp gains from vendors, (even B&B's) but I thought I'd mention it because it was brought up here in the discussion. Car sounds like it belongs to the Devil - that's good!

thanx for all the replys. i plan on going with the exhaust that sounds the best to me that fits in my budget. that is the reason that i refered to corsa as the best. i love the way the indys sound. but holy s#$% 1500 dollars for a catback and mid is crazy. i cant find anyone with the magnapack system to listen to. by the way no exhaust system makes much power over the ti's but the stock c5 has plenty of room for improvement. the test was by a magazine called vette and was on an stock auto and it gained 22.5 at the ground it was not an advertised hp number thanx again any help would be great. Shop around... Search the internet. I paid 1080 delivered for the pace car tiger shark. A friend of mine did even better at a few hundred less for the pace car pro tip series.

Yes - they are over priced....and they gurgle pop when downshifting - unless you buy the mid section.

The pace car is the set to buy if you drive alot. If it was just a weekend car - I'd get the Borlas because they have a meaner idle. I drive mine 100 miles a day - so quiet freeway was crutial.

I have a magnaflow on my truck and it's just a glorified glasspack with stainless guts. It's also heavy. It drones (even with a resonator) a little bit.

Good luck.

Many people, including all of the above, confuse the Magnaflow catback with the Magnapak. They're two very different systems, although both are Magnaflow brand. The Magnapak is almost a straight-pipe with resonators, wheras the std. Magnaflow catback is conventionally designed, same as stock, Corsa, et al. The reason the Magnapak is so much cheaper, is because there's lots less to it!

This is what Magnaflow is claiming their product line looks like:

On my truck is this huge one:

My original thought was that this is the technology used in the cat back system:

The price on this is extreme... $1489!!!

Their less expensive setup is this:

At a little under $700, this is the least expensive whole setup with the x pipe. It looks hella loud though.

You can get the magnapack system on ebay for under 500 shipped Thats what I'm going with. It says its for 00-04 because the rear o2's are so far behind the cats. I will relocate the rear o2'd just before the magnapacks and after the cats or get sims...............Thats a kickazz looking system...................There is one for 350 right now on ebay.

Default drone

the drone to my understanding is only with the 15763 magnapacks not the rest of the systems that use the mufflers

I've had the Magnaflow cat-back on my car since they first came out and I've never had any complaints with it. Maybe only that at low rpm sometimes i would like it to be a little louder, but most of the time prefer it to be on the quiet side, that is until you open it up. Then it sounds great! I also like the rumble it has at idle, which most others don't. Build quality is excellent. I have no complaints about drone.
