Yesterday my engine light came on while cruising on the highway. I took it to my friends shop and put the scanner to it. It gave me the po300 and po654 and it showed a severe misfire on #7. I I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and coil packs and nothing, still lit the ses and showed a misfire on #7. I checked my oil and was 1qt low.
Next a compression test on all the cylinders, average was 135 till I got to #7, it showed zip zero. The original plug out of that cylinder had oil on it as well. I took it apart today, I just got to removing the head and everything looked good. I did the water test on the valves and passed with flying colors. I went on to the water test on the cylinders and guess what, #7 swallowed it immediately.
This is what I need to know:
Part number on the rings for a 2003 zo6
Where can I get them asap besides the dealer
can I use the same metal head gasket
are they stock replacement or is there file fitting involved?
Any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated. I'm very mechanically inclined, but this will be my first experience with a vette.

You can contact Gene at GMpartshouse.com for info on part numbers.
I would not re-use head gasket, exhaust gaskets or the manifold gaskets.
You'll probably have to file fit the rings because of cylinder wear. You'll need to check bore for damage from rings. I got imagine there is more damage then you are reporting to have absolutely zero psi.
Is there any mechanical noise for the motor before dis-assembled ?

when I meant zip, I meant no where close to 135 like the others, I didn't literally mean 0. There is no mechanical noise from the engine and everything looks great in there. I just have to pull the piston out and have a good look at it along with the rings before I can report further.
You are going to be pulling the motor regardless. Verrrry unlikely you don't have cylinder wall damage.
Right now it's hard to tell. Cylinder wall looks great so far. I'm hoping for a frozen/seized/stuck ring rather than broken. I'll know by tomorrow and can report more accurately.
It's that like un heard of? I don't understand, I been around the racing business for some time now and this is the first I hear of this. Do people normally change pistons when they change their rings? Please enlighten me because I'm confused now.

I will inspect the piston. if the grove have sharp edge you should be fine. But I'll doubt about this.
If you have to change piston #7 you will have to weigh the other one and be sure the new one is strickly identical. Honeltly I will change all 8 pistons and rings as if it happen on #7 it may happen soon on other.
Remember to rebalance your crankshaft with pulleys and flywheel.
for the gasket for sure you need to change them no question.
and you also need to change head bolt as they are one times use as you strech them when you do the final torque.

It's nice to hear some rationale behind statements for once. All along I been saying, I have to pull the piston out and inspect before I can report further but I get people jumping the gun. I will remove the piston tomorrow and have it professionally looked at by a machine shop and make decisions after that.
I absolutely agree with changing all 8 if one is bad. Thanks for schooling me on the head bolts..

I think you'll find that you won't need a machine shop once you remove the piston.

It's not you, but LS1's are known for the dreaded #7 piston failure, especially when boosted. If you take a trip over to the FI section and you do a search you'll understand the comments.
time to swap in a LS2!!! Seeing great prices on motors with less that 5K on them!! under $2000
Where? PM me if you desire or post it here. I've got an LS1 with almost 160K miles and five years of autocross and DEs on it, and methinks it would be great to swap out the engine before it expires in loud, noisy, dismal death throes.
I would not re-use head gasket, exhaust gaskets or the manifold gaskets.
I dont understand this logic, Of course i would not re-use the headgasket, but there are no gaskets on the manifold, and if yoru talking about the o-rings they are meant to be re-used and ive never seen them cause any problems.
The exhaust gaskets are metal, and once again ive re-used them so many times i cant even count, and ive never had a problem with them
